LFS Rant

It must vary from state to state then... I know for a fact that the Colorado DOA would bring the hammer down on a business over that. Hard.
very interesting. a lot of people in my old town don't actually have a tone of cash, so it was actually beneficial for the lower income residents to buy their dog food and cat food after the best by date. we did make returns to the distributor after 2 months of it being on the shelf. so it wasn't like we were selling anything 6 months past the date. even super markets sale products 2-6 [weeks :edit]past the best by date here in California even dairy products.

Ok, so how do you feel about the flat out killing of lion fish in coastal Florida waters in order to eradicate them completely,

It’s not just about the lion fish, the other pets aren’t so well either. Being a fish forum, I posted the lion fish. I wasn’t going to post a hamster.

It's like hunting deer...... I don't think the intention is to eliminate the species.....

Nope, FWC wants to totally eliminate then from the area due to their ability to reproduce so quickly and they are completely messig up the ecosystem since they have no real natural predators.

Law of large numbers... Human, Cabron waste, rising ocean, Oceanic life will be dominant. We end up in their HUMAN tank...

Here, they would be allowed to donate anything that's expired to an animal shelter or, if it's feed for livestock, to a farm, ranch, etc. But they definitely wouldn't be able to just keep on selling, especially three years past expiration, as the OP said this place does.

No problem with it. A relatively quick death vs years of suffering.

This isn't an LFS, by your own admission, it's a feed store that happens to have some fish. I think it's an important distinction. I also don't think there's anything wrong with this Lion's current enclosure. Lions are pretty sedentary and don't need much swimming space compared to say, a Tang. From the pic, he has a decent amount of space to maneuver. As someone who worked in and managed a couple actual LFS, I've seen it all and this is not that bad TBH. Not ideal obviously, but definitely not in the realm of animal cruelty IMO.

I'm serious, by the way... If you think it's in well enough shape to survive the trip, and are willing to do it, I'm game to try to save it.

Exactly..... it's like killing the deer getting near the city.... it's not like lionfish will be extinct..... so I guess to answer the original question, I'm all for it.

Close but but not exactly, it's a worldwide problem I just used Florida as an example,. Do people just not research things anymore but think they know all the answers and their opinion on the subject matter is fact??? Geesh

They are wiping them out of areas.... not eliminating the entire species...... Get off your high-horse chief.

I have no experience shipping....I don’t think it’s in good health to make the trip.

ive heard they are even paying people to bring in the fish they spear... my ex neighbors cousin was talking about how he was getting paid 20-34 dollars for each speared lion fish. though idk if he was being serious during the dinner I invited them to.

Poor husbandry, image, and lack of confidence if I walked into that store .

its sad but the truth is so many pet stores are just in it for money. even lfs who care about their fish they bring in cant always give the fish the perfect conditions; its a business somethings aren't possible, and some people shouldn't be running certain businesses. this lion fish should be in at least a 40 gallon long/tall tank but its not its in a biocube
