We are dealing with living creatures and sometimes stuff happens that is out of anyone's control even with the best of care/intentions.

A lot of defensive posturing based on speculation. I read this thread and don't know how you guys are putting the puzzle pieces together. Why can't you guys stop talking in code and lay all your cards on the table?
I didn't think it was that hard. Anonymous OP makes some vague complaint, but doesn't "name names". A simple click of post history shows most of their activity centers around Unique Corals live sale thread. 1+1 probably equals 2.

I just for the first time bought corals from a live sale here last weekend. I bought 28 corals and now your scaring me. I’ll assume everything will be fine because I’ve have not seen many posts like this for live sales. Have not received my order yet should be here Thursday I’ll keep my fingers crossed. I will post again when they come.

I'm calling complete crap on this thread!

Op says hes participated in many live sales over the last 2 years, yet he/she only became a member in January of this year? Thats 4 months here, not 2 years for those of you that are not good with math.

And the vendor was @uniquecorals , with who I have done many live sales with(this past weekend was one and my corals came in 100% as pictured), and my corals always arrive alive and well packed. This is the one vendor I have never had issue with. I'm certainly not saying people can't have issues, but UC is very reputable, and if this was taken up with them, I'm sure they would make it right.

OP if your going to call out a vendor, at least man up and name the vendor.

Also if the Red Sea thread about a broken sump got moved to vendor feedback, this thread should probably be moved there too.

I was asking to find out if this is usual. Not to blast a vendor.
As for you calling me out on how many Live Sales I have done, you don't have to be a member to do live sales.
If you want receipts, I have many of them if you want to be that much of an butt.
And just to because you called out Unique, I'll tell you there is a previous post of my experience on this site if you can read also. Now I'll tell you about my shipment I received from your so call 100% pictured. I received a coral today that I have a photo of 8 heads visible and only received a totally different coral with only 6. Size and shape don't match the picture either. But go ahead an be a fanboy. I have many Hammers from Unique and I purchased there because I trusted them but the last two live sales I get an email from Donna telling me my Corals are DEAD.
Again, it was not my intention to bring this up as all of this happened today and this was all posted yesterday.

I am curious how many of you have bought a nice coral at a live sale and when it was time to ship that coral you get a It's DEAD email?
The reason that I am asking is this has happen to me on multiple occasions now from the same vendor and I have participated in many Live Sales over the Past 2 years here and it's the same vendor every time. I have not had this happen with any other vendor so I am curious if this has happened on multiple occasions to anyone else?
This is why I will never get coral sent to me through the mail

The problem isn't the shipping.
I have never had an issue with receiving a dead coral or a fish for that matter.
I have picked fish up at airports before and never had a problem with DEAD anything.
These never left their facility and I was curious it if happens to others?
One I understand, twice it looks suspicious and that is why I'm was asking.
My many experiences this has never happened and that is why I thought this forum could answer this.

This actually just got really interesting.
I'd love to hear Unique Corals response.
Never any experience with Unique so I cant speak to them personally.
What I can say is I have made Bulk wholesale purchases from a certain vendor that I won't name. Could be my system. Could be anything reason being.
However I lost more than half the stock and threw out the rest and wont make another order.

Be careful. I've found most success buying and trading with regular reefers here that I follow and can watch and see there refs grow and base my purchases on reputation.

I didnt lose much but the ramifications on diseases could be catastrophic.
Always quarantine. I have since put my whole system in quarantine just because.

my experience with joe & UC has been very good. never had that happen but don't usually do their live sales. seems strange that they would say it died & not offer a replacement

I had an issue with a couple orders from Unique Corals sale. The first order was terrible, long story but it took 1 month of back and forth emails to get my refund. This most recent order I had two damaged corals. On digi arrived shattered into 6 pieces and one torch arrived with a chunk broken off of it and it wasn’t the same color as represented in the picture.

I’ll post a pic. Tell me these torch’s aren’t different colors? I paid $150 for this dark purple torch. It was supposed to be light pink/violet/orange/reddish like the one represented. I emailed them days ago, called...still no straight answer...just a 10% credit??

First pic is what was posted online, second one is what I got. the third pic is the damaged portion of the torch. Fourth pic is the shattered digi.

I struggle with buying coral online... id rather see what im 100% going to get and not drowned out in blue lights. Why i love going to RAP or my local fish stores to get coral.

It’s so true and so sad. I’m spending my hard earned money on damaged misrepresented corals? After explaining it through email about both corals being incorrect, only the torch was addressed and this is what Donna said....

10% back in credit....and just for the torch. I want a full refund. Why do I have to make a scene and spend another month figuring this out with you guys. Please UC if you’re reading this I’m just trying to make this right.

I would say those 2 corals are the same, the only difference is they juiced their photo to make it sell. I would guess the 10% was to address that. As far as the chunk... I don't see it, and because of that not even be worried about that.

The digitada on the other hand is a fast grower, and if you water parameters are decent you wont even care in 2 months time.

that was always a purple torch you bought. the UC pic is just under brighter white lights. still not right to get damaged coral however

The torch is correct if you understand reef photography and how colors can change on a camera due to lighting, they should have refunded the digi though and you could still glue it back together and it would grow as a bonus piece

sorry if I get a torch with a chunk missing out if it and a shattered digi when I’m spending almost $1k in corals. I would like a refund on those two items. A full refund.

Digi's break if a fish looks at it the wrong way. You have a live viable coral, one you can glue on a rock in a couple separate spots near eachother and will very soon make one colony. The torch is alive and healthy looking, with minor damage to the skeleton that doesn't seem to be bothering it. How in the world do you think you're entitled to a full refund for either? You try returning them? I expect not.

So to recap the two people complaining here are 1) mad they didn't get charged for or sent a dead/dying coral and 2) expect free corals for minor inconveniences?

I have order a bunch of corals online from different vendors and have had some break in shipping. Bummed yes but in away bonus. Like stated above put them in different spots in your tank or on plugs and grow them out. I have also had a digi break in travels. All I did was mount them in two different spots in my tank and have two colonies now instead of one. Corals are fragile and do break in shipping and in your tank. Don’t know how many times that fish and urchins have decided to take fragging as their responsibilities. Also when you see a picture of a coral it will look different in your tank. If you have questions ask the seller or vendor what colors and lighting they are using if not already posted in the description.

I’m confused, so you bought a torch coral from UC and you don’t think it is the same coral in the photo so you want a FULL refund? Do you want a refund and keep the torch? I’m just baffled I havent seen anywhere about giving the torch back.
