Looking for an accurate digital thermometer

+1 for thermapen mk4. Accurate to +/- 0.7 degrees F. I bought it for grilling/ bbq, but use it to test temp of water change water and to double check the temp in my tank which is controlled by a Pinpoint temp controller.

Also keep in mind that the fluke 52 is the gold standard for calibrating anything that is temp controlled. They are used when calibrating medical equipment.
my only concern is I don’t know what the probes are made out of and wouldn’t want to put that in my tank.
That is an inaccurate statement with the exception that they can be used to cal medical equipment, but that is mainly due to it's portability. At best that might be used in a type 4 calibration lab but certainly not the gold standard in temperature calibration.
Good enough for reef tanks but not a standard.

I have an oldfashion lab thermometer that I use to check my IR thermometers. The glass thermometer is almost a foot long and has a resolution of 0.1 celsius degrees and accuracy 0.2.
The IR thermomers (cheapest on market) I use has a resolution of 0,1 celsius and have a fault of about 0,5.
But they always have the same misreading.
Anyway I dont care too much. If the temperature is between 25 and 27 celsius its good (75 to 81 F)

I've had this for about 5 years and it's accurate and precise. It is NIST certified with "Multi-point calibration on an individually-numbered Traceable® Certificate which assures accuracy from our ISO/IEC 17025:2017". It also comes with 2 probes, which come in handy.

This is my previous post on the thermometer ... https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/w...-and-conductivity-testers.688757/post-7066215
Which means it was calibrated from the manufacturing company. Better than nothing but not calibrated from an independent lab. Just making sure all that jargon is interpreted correctly.

I have a Bayite BTC201temperature outlet controller. It has heating and chilling but I only use the heating. It can be calibrated for accuracy and you can set your parameters to within 1/10 of a degree. If my tank drops 2/10's of one degree below set point my heater comes on. If it goes 2 degrees over an alarm sounds. One of the reasons I picked this one is it has a replaceable probe, some units don't. I haven't had any problems with mine but I've read that probes that come with these type of controllers have a high failure rate.

Lots of good info here. I've got a slightly different way to protect myself from temp drift. I added a second pH probe to the apex to control my carx, and the PM1 module also has a temp probe port. So I have two temp probes, one in the sump within the heater compartment, and one in my tank overflow. They usually run in sync with each other, but if one starts to drift, I'll know it.

(Don’t mind the salinity, I don’t trust that probe and haven’t bothered to calibrate it).

I have this as well and I love it.

I had a Fluke until my bro remembered I narrowed it and he reclaimed it, now I got a Hanna... I miss my Fluke.

I got the newer inkbird 306t the blue WiFi with two probes. This is my second I had the green one with one metal probe for a year. I will say the inkbird was reading exactly the same as the reading from Hanna temp from the start. Very pleased with this model. With this model probe placement is key I have one probe in the return section of the sump and one probe in the over flow of the display. It seems to be very accurate and runs the two tru temp heaters like a champ. Good 47.00 purchase for me at least
Hey, I just recieved this Item for my 50 gal aio lagoon, & placed the probes right next to each other in the sump area. After reading your comment, I'm considering rearranging their placement. Would you suggest, one probe be in the middle by the return pump & the other be placed in one of 2 chambers, where the water from from the tank enters before it goes into the last chamber where the return pump is located?

Yea that would be good spots. Just make sure one is not right next to the heater so it reads correctly. I wound up moving the one in my overflow to the sump. When I last did a water change the suction cup released and I could see it floating over and getting sucked over or into the return or the emergency drain. They have read perfectly, I have one where the drains dump right before the socks and one in in the return section on the other side of the varios. I guess just make sure your return pump runs cool or else it will read a false temp. After a little bit of use I am very happy still, the temp history on the ink bird app shows a total flat line so they must be working great.
