MA Reefer250

Suffered my first unexplainable fish loss.... My Tri color fairy wrasse has moved on the big reef tank in the sky. He was MIA for a couple of days and my gal says she saw him one afternoon laying on the bottom but still breathing. That was last Sunday and he hasn’t been seen since. No issues in the tank to speak of so I got to believe he injured himself somehow.

hey my friend to what you have hook up the led lights of the chaeto reactor to and how?

Time to update my long forgotten build thread. I seem to like looking at your tanks more than updating the history of my own.
2017 Began with some lighting changes. I removed a Kessil 360 and added on a 4 bulb ATI fixture. I then modded that by mounting 2 Kessil 160's to it. My tank and I certainly love this combo but it may not be the sleekest looking setup out there.

So moving into February I realized water changes were no longer keeping up with demand so I started dosing. Seemed easy enough but being a rookie I was a little intimidated. Added a Jebao dosing pump for 2 er (3) part. Not the cleanest install you'll see but its functional.

Sometime around late Feb/Early March I finally got the Apex installed and off the floor. Really like having Apex control however constant PH monitoring got the better of me. Here comes the CO2 scrubber! Yeah, I'm a sucker for anything seen on BRS TV. Thank god there's no Home Reef Shopping Network. I have it hidden away behind a curtain so no picture for you! I dont blast through media all that often maybe change it every 6 weeks so I'll keep it as I do believe it works.

So it was right around April I guess when things really started looking decent. I say decent cuz the tank looked okay but growth had stalled and I was losing color to corals. While I had stabilized PH, gotten a pretty good handle on dosing for stability I finally realized I was stripping my water of all nutrients. I had no algae, zero No3 and zero Po4. So I pulled the GFO/Carbon reactors out and dosed a little No3 to get things moving again.

I know some other things happened along the way but who can remember it all? Oh yeah, I added a Chaeto reactor. (Sucker for Marine Depot TV too I guess).

I guess finally I shoot the tank as it stands today 7/13/17. I guess that makes it about 14 months old or so?!?! Where does the time go? Oh yeah I started up a 32g Biocube somewhere in there too.

Man That Sump looks like a Mad Hatter science project but the tank looks Amazing, I guess thats the work you have to put in to get that kind of Results. Great Tank

Haha, yeah had a few experiments going on over the past year. Its much more simplified at this point though...the thread needs an update. Thanks for stopping by.

Ultimately the tanks been on autopilot for the most part since I added the Orphek v4 back in Sept/Oct.

I feed, clean the skimmer, top off the ato and fill the Kalk reservoir every 3 weeks or so. Testing No3 and Alk weekly at 8.7Dkh and 5-10ppm. Po4 comes in bewteen .07 and .15 though ive only been testing it evry 6-8 weeks or so.

Did lose a Tricolor fairy wrasse for no real reason but we replaced him with a Blue Star Leopard that im in love with.

Not a stylo. Both are branching Monti’s. Monti’s go gang busters in here whether they’re encrusters, branching or plating.

I struggle with the harder Acro’s in this tank. They grow albeit super slowly. They do so much better for me in the biocube than here. Go figure.

OK, Im beat. Snow day in MA so I’ve been playing in the water since 8am or so. Cleaned out a bunch of accidental frags from the sand bed. Moved a bunch of stuff around trying to get more of an uncluttered look. Here’s a couple of early pics. Most of what was moved is still quite angry but theyre starting to smile some.

First moved the crown leather from where it was tucked behind the green monti cap on the left. I had to move a purple torch to finagle it in there.

Then we moved the pink digi up from behind the purple digi to where the purple birdsnest was. Birdsnest to the frag rack until i figure out where to put it.

Also moved a gold torch to the back left of the rock work. Hes still angry but here ya go.
