Manny's Waterbox 190.5 build/progress

Today was a busy day.
Set up the tank. Took four people to move it onto the stand. Then I siliconed the bare bottom starboard. Then the lights. Then the scape. Then the plumbing had to be modified to hook up to the clarisea filter roll. Almost ready for water!

Looking great [emoji6] did the yellow suction cup glass movers work good that you have in pic ? I ordered a 170.4/5 and planning to use some myself lol just nervous.

They worked flawlessly. They are very strong. I had 6 of them

Hey Manny love the white bare bottom did you use water box dimensions or get a sheet and measure/cut ? I’m going with black ABS on my 170 when gets here I think.

How much gap did you end up with around edges and did you silicone edge? Wondering about detritus getting under edges etc.

I didnt silicone the edges. It’s a tight fit. Less than 1mm gap. I took measurements and had the plastic shop cut it when I ordered the starboard sheet. Over time, the gap will fill in with coralline anyway

Ten four thanks for the feedback [emoji106] trying find someone like eplastics etc that would cut it too lol shipping about as much as material.

If you don’t mind where did you get your starboard and is there a benefit of starboard over ABS ? I was going to use the .189 (3/16).

you should check with your local plastic store. They should be able to custom cut whatever they have in stock. Went with starboard because it has better UV resistance and salt water resistance ratings. Also it has some texture to it so it looks better than smooth plastic. I went with 1/4" because 1/2" was going to be too heavy to lift

Thanks [emoji106] Chuckle...no local in KS [emoji6] but TAP plastics in California is sending 1/4" ABS my way cut to specs hoping works out

Some progress

Tank is filled. Had some issues with leaking from the plumbing that wasn’t tight enough. Now starting to cycle. Added some equipment as well.

Those new gyre pumps from maxspect are dead silent. Much better than my previous icecap 3k. Also the hanna salinity checker is a gift from god. No more refractometer for me

Very nice. I am not much on bare bottom, but, yours really looks nice.

Love the scape!

Looks awesome! I’m waiting on a 190.5. Was supposedly shipped today. No tracking number as of yet. Your pics have me super amped!

Hey Manny been working on my 170.4/5 that came in couple days ago but how the heck did you get your bulkhead fittings tight that’s major pain in @#$% ? Nothing to really put wrench on or hold...just feels like needs be tighter lol.

Your tanks looking good enjoying following along...rooting for you [emoji106]

Yes it’s hard to get it tight. Hand tight and it started leaking. I tightened it more with my hands and now it doesn’t leak anymore. I did it from below and the threads do hurt so wear some good gloves. Once the pipe above has no movement at all, it’s water tight

Ten four...did you have someone hold upper pipe from top with ladder or just tighten from bottom with your gloves and the friction/Oring stopped the top pipe from turning?

I was by myself. When i tried from the top, the bottom would rotate with it. So i tried from the bottom and the top didnt rotate. The o ring kept the pipe steady. I did have some water in it though so maybe that helped
