Maroon clowns

I had a pair around 14 years ago. I'll have to see if I can dig up a pic.

They're beautiful fish but will rule a tank once the pair grows up. I had to trade mine to the lfs.

I have had a male and female for a couple months, and it has been a journey. I was suborn and decided to pair them myself and also introduce them at the same time. They loved each other for about 3 days and then she was very abusive towards him for about a week or two. I never separated them because I heard they are tough as nails and he had a spot to swim away to. Now she never bothers him. I hope when she gets more mature they will pair together. But I totally agree with you. They defiantly need there own tank unless you have a huge system.

Your lightening maroon looks nice! The breeder I get my clowns from has 2 pairs that produce lightening maroons. The females are larger than my hand. He says they draw blood if he sticks his hand in the tank. I didn't care to test this.

My favorite clown is in my avatar, which I also got from him;)

My Gold Lightning Moroons. Sorry I told them to stay still for a pic but they ignored me.

I am trying to get her used to my hand but she still nips. I'm not looking forward to it when she is full grown....

I only had a single one, not a pair but it was the most aggressive fish I have ever had. It was about 2-3 inches in size so I don't know because of the size had anything to do with it either. Also don't know if not having a mate had anything to do with its behavior but returned him after several months after terrorizing the rest of the tankmates.

That's a really nice pair! Almost makes me want to try keeping maroons again.
Thanks! They are awesome until you put you hand in the tank, then her eyes light up as if my fingers resemble a piece of Popeye's fried chicken then it's game on. Took a couple of months before the male could come out from behind the rocks.

That sounds about right to me;)

The large one I had years ago could move a football sized rock like nothing. Pretty sure it did that to test my temper on a daily basis. Coral frags were totally open game. Glued and screwed, she'd move the thing.

How did you introduce them? Both at once, female first than male later?
Both at once, there was a few times I considered pulling one out, but the tank was so deep, big and so much rock I couldn't catch him. I tried several methods, then my only choice was to observe and keep my fingers crossed. It did get ugly...

That's what I did too. I wanted to pull the male out too when his fins where ripped up but I knew he could take it. It was hard to watch though. He is healthy, happy, and shy now.

I have a goldflake that was my first fish and I so want a pair of them. I am too chicken. When I transfer to a new tank in couple months I may try to introduce another small one.

Ya I was stressing hard when I got my pair. You should do it, only advice is to do the pairing in your display not a quarantine system. I have seen a few males killed by the female because the male didn't have an escape. Would you get another Goldflake or a different design!?

I would prefer a different, was just looking on ORA website. I believe the rule is same species is best?

I saw a really pretty Blood Orange a month ago...it was already sold and waiting to ship.

I wonder how they got a ocellaris and maroon to mate?? That would be a cool fish to get. A gold nugget maroon would be wicked. They are one of my favorites.
