massive coral die off!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Wow... why are they down there taking pictures and reporting when they could be getting huge trucks of ice dumped in there....we do to our fish tanks when they're overheating....these idiots need to learn some reef keeping 101.

So you think dumping ice in the OCEAN is going to lower temps lol. Yeah in a 120 gallon tank its easy but we're talking the ocean. Do you understand how much is it would take to lower the temp even 1 degree??? My trillions of pounds of ice and it probably still wouldnt do anything

extremly sad situation and i'm sure mother nature will fix what she destroys.
what's equally as bad is how they reported that is was probably due to global warming.. Did they just jump to that conclusion or was there conclusive study to make that claim.. I doubt that there was any study and that just ticks me off. Guess i could say that the rash of bad winter weather in the states was due to an early ice age!!!

Troylee and GR808. Your last posts say it all. Mother nature, not us humans.

As a race we're not capable to manipulate the weather around this entire globe. Local. Very very local impact maybe taking in consideration the size of the Earth. But not the entire 26,000 mile circumference in which we'd also have to impact the atmosphere from land all the way upto and beyond our own planetary space along with the depths of the ocean from surface to the deepest of the Marianas trench. Which we happen to know less about than our complete solar system. We trust these scientists that know more about a planet they no longer consider a planet millions of light years away than they do about mud only 36,000 feet away here on our own planet?

This "global climate change" which they've cleverly changed from "global warming"(To fit their agendas) is way bigger than us small humans could ever muster up. Back when they claim this world was covered in ice, then water. There were far less of us then, and we had nowhere near the means millions of years ago(ugh ugh. Me Tarzan you Jane) to make an impact to melt all that ice which formed all those melting glaziers we have today. What is going on with this planet has been going on longer than we know and we have nothing to do with it.

Earth quakes, Tornados, Volcanos and Hurricanes are all out of our control. We are just here for the ride. Or other things for which you may or may not believe. I find evolution as hard to believe as someone creating this planet. Something can't go bang without first being created. 0+0 still equals 0. 1x0 equals 0. 1+0 still only equals 1. And before you can do that problem you need to get(create) the 1 from something, and you're still stuck with only 1.

well said DD64..
I'm sure humans have some impact on this Earth but I don't think it is enough to change the normal cycles Earth goes through. I guess humans need an excuse to accept all these changes mother nature goes through or can it be an excuse to make MONEY!!!

^^ Right there with you Reef Goddess, its kinda of shocking. As someone who reads the papers, sees the studies, experiments and does the research, its hard to understand why someone would believe we do not have an impact on our planets ecosystems.

This is crazy. Of course we neg impact our environment and are causing many changes that would not naturally occur.

This is almost as bad as the guys who said mother nature will adapt to us, and we should continue to take wild corals.

I find it difficult sometimes to believe everything the press wants to say, which reminds me of a movie I once saw, a documentary at that. I think it was a former vice president talking about global warming. Has anyone ever seen his house???? I wonder what kind of carbon footprint he leaves behind. I'm sure that would be an inconvenient truth. :squigglemouth:
btw i drive a Prius

How typical of humans to think that we have no impact on our earth. I'm sure the Great Pacific Gyre where a garbage accumulation larger than the state of Texas is mother nature's problem as well huh?? Garbage Patch

Keep on driving your big *** SUV and think that all the trash and pollution we are putting out into the Earth will not come back to haunt us. One day the human race will no longer exist because the Earth will get tired of us.

It is threads like this that remind me of why I stopped participating on this forum. Unbelievable to me that so many people continue to not give a **** in this country. How pathetic!

This forum is not defined by what one or a few members say or don't say. Please don't lump R2R in with something someone else says.

its just another symptom of a bigger underlying problem and its only the beginning folks.
watch what happens in the next year.

Good article Troylee! As much controversy as there is about all of this, its good that people are talking.

Its all about us one way or another. I believe we are killing corals do to global warming and other man made incidences like the BP disaster. Regardless of whether or not we as a race are killing the corals or its just mother nature taking its course, the human race is one powerful unit as a whole. Together we can save many of these beautiful corals. To me that is what Reef2Reef is about, not just about giggling about the newest coral, but about seriously teaching our trade to the young or inexperienced. Right now we might not be capable of making a huge impact but as time goes on and knowledge expands who knows. I am trying to do my part. Teaching others as best as I can about corals and their ecosystems. And about how to reproduce those ecosystems in captive reefs. Who knows maybe all wild corals will die in the next few hundred years but will live on for thousands of years in captive reefs. Then thousands of years down the line we might be able to clean the world and oceans up enough for corals to thrive once again. Yea, I know its probably science fiction but in the very unlikely case where it does happen we will be the grandfathers of the coral saviors.

Hows that for inspiring?
