Movers damaged my tank :/

They have someone coming out today to look at it to find out if it can be fixed or if they will be replacing it

Good luck I hope they make it right for you! When I had to move my tank every mover I called would not touch it and even our LFS who has a side company that services tanks wouldn't move it. I even tried the firehouse and police station offering to pay and they wouldn't touch it.

Well they said they are gonna have a glass guy come out to see if it can be replaced and if it cant be they will cut me a check for the glass cages quote plus shipping to get a new one from them :)

I definitely plan on getting the new one if it cant be fixed. The past couple days started bad but things are looking up now.

honestly, Id be worried about them "fixing" it! hope they have a qualified aquarium builder checking it out and doing the job.

I agree. Hopefully they don't have a regular ol Joe Shmo come out there that thinks he'll be repairing a glass piece that needs to hold water.

This! ^^^^^

Just because he's a "glass" guy doesn't mean he's a glass aquarium guy!

I'm surprised! If they are willing to pay, you've won!

When we moved my kid back from San Diego to New Jersey, the truck pulled up in front of the house, and when they opened up the door, we all saw the large gash in the roof of the truck. Everything was wet...obviously from rain as it crossed the US. By the way, a national moving company. Their response....they pay by weight....I think it was 50 cents per pound....and they keep the damaged goods. We figured it out and it was a joke, and just kept everything. Luckily we were able to dry out everything, with nothing obviously stained, and the 5o inch television still worked.

I think you found a great moving company. The one thing we never did when we contracted ours was look at the insurance part. That won't happen again.

I use moving companies to move all large tanks for new installations. Even if the tank has been delivered at clients home by manufacturer and just has to be moved inside. If you have it insured for the full amount they will be liable for it, without a doubt. I've only had two mishaps over the years and was taken care of quickly.

If you do your due diligence and find a reputable mover (get full insurance on the tank) you'll have nothing to worry about.

Glad to hear they're taking care of it for you :)

I'll be surprised if you get full value. Especially the starfire factor. I know alot of moving companies have clauses about aquariums, so make sure you've read all the fine print.

I hope it works out in the end for you. But there are professionals who move aquariums. How come you didn't just hire an aquarium professional?

I live in Iowa not many options for who to move tanks. But these are professional movers. The tank wasn't setup this was bought to upgrade from my 220g tank.

I'll be there when the glass guy comes. Definitely not gonna settle for a piece of 3/4" glass nor would I be comfortable with a person that doesn't make aquariums fix it.

The mgr seemed just fine with cutting me the check for the glass cages quote but he had to follow the way they do things.

Hope all goes well. Here in Illinois we only get 10¢ per pound if they break something.

I called all the movers in my town to move my 300dd from the garage to my living room and no one would touch it. They all said nothing over a 120g tank.

Thats crazy I'm sure they move heavier things then that on a daily basis. This tank is huge not sure how I'm going to get it out of the house lol i might have to dismantle it or sell it for $100

I'm sorry your tank was broken. Glass Cages does nice work. Unfortunately, your tank very likely cannot be repaired. It must be replaced. Silicon sticks well to glass, but not to itself, so any 'fix' is only as strong as the silicon to silicon bond. Cutting and scraping the silicone off the glass isn't enough - there is enough of the silicone left to compromise the bond. You can sand it off, or cut the glass.
If they 'fix it' get a guarantee because it will probably leak. I speak from experience - I had a 400 gallon glass cages tank on a defective stand. The bottom seam let go and emptied the tank. I saved the livestock and had to replace it. I even contacted a number of local tank makers - none of them would touch it. Glass cages offered me a slight discount on a new one but would not fix it or recommend anyone to fix it.
Insist on a new tank. If their guy says it can be fixed ask him if he's ever done this before, and again, demand a guarantee on the repair
