Mp10 just blew!

It's the same guy posting from different SNs ;)

But seriously, I'm glad vortech guys aren't even bothered jumping in. Too busy counting their money! Lol

Good thing mods cleaned that up. I was about to go off, pretty offensive term to many I'd assume

If you see something offensive, don't add fuel to the fire. Report it so we can address. :)

Well this thread got a little out of control. But I finally was able to get through to customer service at Ecotech on the phone this morning and had a pleasant conversation with Alex who agreed to ship out both a new power supply and a new controller even though, as I've mentioned, they were at least 2 months out of warranty. They are including a shipping label so that I can ship the old ones back to them at no charge.

So other than the time it took it seems that Ecotech did go above and beyond requirements to make my problem right. I have no idea what Jebao would have done in this situation and even hesitate to bring the subject up as it's impossible to know for sure. But I feel I did get something "extra" for the relatively large amount of money I spent on the Vortech pump. Given the surprising intensity of emotion around the whole value topic and the apparent competition from Jebao, I would suggest that if Ecotech is going to make it a policy to replace equipment that is out of warranty then they might be better off simply making the warranty longer. Then people can point to that as something tangible they are getting for the extra money spent for the Ecotech equipment and differentiate themselves further from the "disposable" Jebao pumps.

I am interesting in seeing what products are in the pipeline from Ecotech that might take some of the wind out of Jebao's sails. Speculation about the discounted Ecotech prices being a harbinger of new product releases is intriguing and plausible. Assuming my immediate problem of getting another working, good quality wavemaker pump is solved I may wait to see what they come out with in the next month or so (ie MACNA) before deciding if my next pump will be Ecotech or Jebao.

I love my jebaos but I know I'm s.o.l if it breaks. But if it does break I can buy 3 more before I would have spent as much as one mp40.

Agreed. @ the price you paid for the Vortech you should have not to wait as long as you did for a response. Look at your box from Ecotech. It says assembled in America. Not made in America. The over inflated price is just ridiculous. I am happy that there is finally competition.

Well I've connected the new power supply and controller and my pump is working again. However the battery backup is still non-functional. It shows it's charged, but when I disconnect mains power to it and the pump the pump just goes dead. I've sent another email to customer service but what is going on here? Both power supplies crap out at the same time?

Please only useful replies - I don't want to hear anything more about Jebao in this thread!

You know if you had Jebeo this wouldn't be a problem......

Because they don't even make backup battery supplies :D

(Sorry I couldn't be helpful... I love my vortechs though)

Arrrgh and Grrrr. Gettng a little frustrated I admit. My multimeter is saying the battery backup is putting out only 0.5v when fully charged. I think that should be 12v. Customer service says to send it in for repair. Just checked and it too is out of warranty by about 2 months. So I don't even know what's going on but I'm likely going to have to pay for shipping (this thing weighs about as much as two bricks) and repair. I'm wondering if it's even worth it. The "darned" thing is pop-riveted closed (who does that?) so I can't even pull it apart to see what could be wrong or if I could fix it myself. Maybe I should cut the rivets and see, and if I can't do anything just buy a new one.

The battery backup on this pump was a big chunk of my peace of mind as I knew my system could survive a lot of problems as long as the water kept moving. Maybe it's time to buy that deep-cycle marine battery to connect to my UPS and leave the world of expensive and unrepairable equipment behind.

So gotta properly close out this story.

Finally shipped the battery in using usps. FedEx was the same price but wouldn't ship it cuz it was a battery, even tho that's how it had been shipped to me originally.

I digress.

Ecotech support continued to be great. I got a call from the lab guy the same day it arrived. He said it was working fine for him. He thought my cable could be bad so he said he would send it back with a new cable and did. Charged me only for the shipping (fedex, fwiw). Got it back and yup it works. The stupid fuse was bad in my cable. I like to think I would have thought to check that if I wasn't still getting a small .5v through it, but actually it wasn't my brightest moment.

So bottom line is that the Ecotech customer support was just as good as everyone said it was, replacing things out of warranty, not charging for testing and replacement parts, and enduring endless emails from me. So, for the price you pay for this equipment I conclude you are getting innovative and unique design that is well built as well as excellent support. I'm good with that.
