Mp10 just blew!

I would say I prolly spend 300ish on an average coral order, so I always told myself, if it is less than that to have a nicer piece of equipment in my tank, it's a no brainer, I have one MP40 right now, and am ordering a second one next week, this is really the only hobby that I have outside of skiing, so just make a realistic budget, and stick to it. If it means you can afford EcoTech equipment, great, if it means you buy it but cannot buy much else for a little while, it's worth it to me to make sure that the things in my tank have the best chance for long term survival.

Yes I'm going to stay w ecotech, I'm just disappointed it died so soon out of warranty. As I said there is nothing exactly like them. The comments from others of good customer support are encouraging so we will see what happens.

I picked up a maxi jet 900 that has the prop mod with it. It's doing a good enough job now that I'm not worried. I have it blowing across the tank into the front glass with two other smaller normal powerheads aimed across its current to make turbulence.

You should be able to get a LFS to help you getting the parts you need (control box dead? You can buy the board and replace it) otherwise ecotech has stellar customer service and should be able to help ou out.

I would honestly look into the jebao RW series of pumps. They just came out. I have the rw8 and I love it so much. All the control of the mp's at 1/3 the price.

Oh now that's useful. I missed that page. Was in process of planning and executing a big birthday celebration in the city when this hit so it's been impossible to give it the proper attention. I could get a controller and power supply for $105

Those are pretty frankly amazing when you consider the price. wireless connectivity for $99? Jeez. And given the restraint of not being able to replicate the wet/dry design of the ecotech I'd say that they have done a better job of minimizing the in-tank size better than anyone else I've seen. Definite props to those engineers, and no doubt workers making them for pennies an hour lol.

Again I'll stick w ecotech for now because of their wet/dry design cuz of how small my tank is. I sure hope they have something cool to replace their current lineup at MACNA. any speculation? A paddle wheel wave maker perhaps?

Customer service got back to me a couple days ago saying it was strange that the power supply took the controller with it when it went and asking me for serial numbers and manufacture date. I responded with the info and asking for advice but haven't heard back yet. If I don't by later today I'm going ahead and ordering something. Either parts to rehab my MP10 or maybe an RW, which I can get for less than the MP10 parts.

For real the wet dry thing I hate that the pump sticks out on the outside of the tank and are load u can hear them humming plus they heat up so much .. If you have glass don't think it's good .. The RW is a way better design then the old wp .. They are way!! Smaller too.. If you are using the mp10 go with the RW-4 the 8 are ***** strong I have one and love it! and cuz they are in the water no noise and the RW 4 is so small for real I think it's only an inch bigger then the mp10... Plus you can move them up and down and they are only 79.95 free shipping on eBay you will have it in 3 days if you Order it now ... It and behind it 100% it's a quick fix plus you can try it out and a great back up if your mps take a sh it lol

Well still nothing back from Ecotech. They apparently feel this is a case of "legitimate ****" (sorry if that is offensive to anyone - but considering the cost vs life span seems an appropriate term) and I should pay for replacement. I didn't pull any triggers yet frankly because payday isn'it until tomorrow lol. I am beginning to lean more toward trying out the Jebao RW-4 however. If I don't like it I can still repair the MP10 and then have both in my tank, which I would like.

The MP10 still has the one (big) advantage of battery backup, although in the situation I just encountered with the controller blowing the battery wouldn't help if I had been out of town. I could run the Jebao off my UPS if the power failed, but it would require adding a deep-cycle marine battery to get a significant amount of run time.

All I can saw is yes the vortech is the best pump out right now. Is it worth 200+ dollars? Not in my opinion. You can try out the rw and still have enough money to repair your mp10. I have the rw8 and I love it. It's probably way to strong for my tank though. In wave mode at max blast it literally rocks my tank back and forth. Probably has to do with the cheap stand lol.

Well customer service finally emailed me back, apologizing for the delay, and told me they would replace my power supply! Good deal since it is out of warranty! But they didn't mention the dead controller in the email. I'm instructed to call them to arrange things, but have tried three times and waited on hold until it timed out each time. So back to Friday night again and another weekend with no pump.

My corals are actually doing fine with the cheap noisy marineland prop powerhead I got last Saturday at petco however.

I'm still thinking I'll get an RW-4 to work with the mp10. The mp10 is on the back and I'll put the RW on the side so I don't have a vortech wart sticking out of the side of my tank. Should get best of both worlds, flow from different directions, and be able to blow up the current when I want.

Get the RW. It has a better flow rate, same features and a fraction of the price. Pumps fail, electronics fail everything mechanical will eventually fail. I would rather spend $80 as opposed to $300 to $500 for a pump that does the same thing. There is no real evidence that a Jebao pump will not last as long as a Vortech. Not to mention the giant dry side on the pump is unattractive. I have seen many post complaining about both pumps failing prematurely. A pump is basically a pump there is nothing in the MP10 that makes it better than the WP, RW, Tunze or Korillia line. Yes the power supplies vary and controllers vary but open them up its the same stuff. They may have different firmware to do different things but all basically have the same components. I cant justify spending what Ecotech wants for any of the product line.

Reef Tanks have become very popular in Asia this will make products less expensive and more readily available. Ecotech is way overpriced. More products like the Jebao RW need to be introduced into this market. The hype with the Ecotech I have never understood. It may be designed in the US but it is all made in China. Ecotech is not passing any of the profit to the retailers. It is price fixed and if you want to sell it you have to sell it at the price they want. Ecotech seems to be following Apples business model. US designed Chinese made over priced stuff. Kudos to Jebao.

FYI Ecoctech MP10 200 to 1500 gph
Jebao RW 8 185 to 2113 gph

Finally some one is making some sense lol I've been screaming this in every forum for the last two months even b4 I would never buy a MP just cuz of the price ..

who wants to own something like a power head that wears and gets all ugly from Algee and Caroline for 3 years? And have it break down anyways.. I rather have a new RW-8 every year .. And probably still be cheaper lol idk man reef on

I dated a Caroline once she was very attractive. I would not want to date her sister coralline. LOL:wink:

The RW's are so nice. If you dont have Radions and are not concerned with the lights synching to your pumps.I would get the RW's in a heartbeat. The RW has a built in night sensor. So Radions no Radions really dosent matter. IMHO Radions are crap anyways. Yes that is not going to be a popular stance. But most of you are like sheep and just move to what is popular and over priced. They are just a fancy China box with cheap LED's selling at a over inflated price. Agaian what they have is the firmware and a internet based interface. The LEDS are LEDS. YOU ALL ARE CRAZY BUYING INTO THE ECOTECH HYPE. Your super complicated ramp up sunrise mid day light programs just dont matter to your coral.

Dude it's just for the equipment nerds haha they love to geek out on that stuff..
