My 33 gallon rimless shallow tank

hey everyone havent updated in a while. went up to the CORA fragswap this past weekend and it was a great time. picked up a few gems and figured id show off some of them. everything seems to be doing great right now with really good polyp extention from the sps. my alk and calc were a little high yesterday, 11dkh and 500. I switched to reef crystals a couple weeks ago and i think thats why its a little higher. anyway lets get to the pics!

Thanks rev! I definitely got the hookup at the fragswap. Everyone was very generous with the size of frags as well as prices. Can't beat getting corals from a swap, some of the deals are just awesome

havent updated in a little while. snapped a few quick pictures tonight. sorry they are so blue.
tyree pink watermelon and another no name watermelon

Your god of war palys look fantastic!!! Is it just me or do the the eyes on the war coral look bigger on the side with the giant eye? I wonder why they giant eye formed. HMM...

Nice set up, josh! I really like it and you have certainly picked up some nice stock.

Thanks! When i bought the war coral frag it was only the single large eye. the other eyes have grown off of it since ive had it. not sure why they are smaller than that one.

Thank ya! its probably overstocked to be honest. been thinking about getting a larger skimmer but not sure of the best one for my tank yet

havent updated in a while. everything is going pretty well with the tank. found a couple older pics of my acans and took a new one tonight to see their growth. ive had them for around a year i would guess. theyve really started taking off in the last few months though.

this picture is from last Feb. when I moved everything from my nano to the new tank

Major Update! I'll let the pictures do most of the talking...
Got rid all of my rocks and sand. The calcareous algae was just becoming too much and i simply wasnt happy with where the tank was going. For new rock i decided to go with real reef live rock alternative and I could not be more pleased! This stuff looks and feels exactly like liverock and it was a perfect choice since going with cured live rock the first time got me the calcareous algae. It is painted to look like it is covered in coraline algae and it is very hard to tell any difference from the real thing. The real reef rock is "live" because it sits in tubs of saltwater so I'm hoping I haven't caused a cycle that will upset any of my fish or coral that I kept. Anyway here are some pics.

Was able to keep my chalices and acans. Luckily none of the algae had spread to them yet.

My skimmer also started making uncontrollable micro bubbles that I couldn't fix so I had to get a new skimmer. I went with a reef octopus nw 110 and so far I am very pleased. Also changed over to filter socks and am more than happy that I did. Here's a couple pics of my new look sump

say hello to my little friends!
here's a video of my new picasso clowns that I got this past weekend. They are still getting settled in. Sorry for the iphone video, I'll try to get one with the hd camera soon.

I'd like to than Kris and alpha aquaculture again for the great clowns. I highly recommend checking them out if your looking for some sweet designer clowns!
My ocellaris clowns were given to my friends who took my 12 gallon and will be happy in their new home by the way. :)

I know the tank looks fairly empty right now but that will change pretty soon. I've been saving up for the WORC frag swap in Dayton, Ohio. I love frag swaps and can't wait to check out the one in Dayton this year. I know last year it was great and I'm sure it will be this year as well.

here are a few pics of my new picasso clowns. im really hoping they eventually become a mated pair and start spawning. I think it would be a fun challenge to raise the fry.
(sorry the pics are a little blurry)

sadly the other picasso decided to take an expensive carpet surf. I'm considering getting a mesh top but the one who jumped looked like he wanted to jump from day one, always swimming right at the top of the water, sometimes splashing at the surface. I have less worry about the other two jumping but I still might have to get a mesh screen top.
thanks for looking :)
