My new SPS Tank

Amazing progress on this tank! Great job! You mentioned the 4 things that you feel we need for success, so I have 4 questions.

1-Good Light: What PAR do you aim for with your tank?

2-Good Flow: What is your tank turnover from your powerheads?

3-Good Parameter: Do you purposely try to keep a low bioload (fewer fish/less feeding) to keep nutrient under control?

4-Supplement Ca/Alk/Mg: Do you still only measure Alk out of the big 3?

Thanks for sharing this inspirational reef!

I truly enjoyed your thread. You are a master artist with the living art that you have nurtured. The growth rate is stunning and inspiring. The information you shared, extremely valuable. You have motivated me to do better with my tank.
I remember seeing one of your previous tanks years ago. For some people lightning doesn’t strike twice. You my friend are the lightning thief. Cheers.

The max PAR here is 400. 300 in average. You can see my vídeo to see my flow.

I always try to keep no3 and po4 close to zero ( salifert and Hanna )

Yes, just measure Alk weekly and Ca/Mg around 8/12 months

Thank you! I see you have great flow! How many gallons per hour do you get from your powerheads? And do you just use strong export to keep NO3 and PO4 low or do you only keep a few fish and feed them less?

I don´t know the turnover. Nero 5 and Mp40 random mode and gyre 60%. You need to look to your corals, they will tell you if the flow is good or not.

I feed a lot my fish, two or three times per day. My main filter is my corals.

Cheers

Thanks for the intel! I agree that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to flow. And great point about the coral. I think coral are an often forgotten part of the systems filtration.

What do you do when ALK drops. My ALK seems to drop .2 to .4 every day, like yesterday it was at 9 and today 8.6 ?

Just dose your favorite supplement to increase your alk

One of the lessons that can be gleaned from your amazing build is restraint when it comes to adding corals. Too many tanks end up looking like a tank in a LFS that is trying to sell corals. Overstocking can take away from the aesthetics.
It looks like you added a few new frags but the open/negative space keeps it looking natural. Placing the LPS close to the rock islands was really smart too.

A wonderful aquarium!

What is the diet of fish? What and how do they feed?

The yellow tang and clownfishes look happy and well-fed despite the absence of algal growth and very good water quality.
