I am finally moving on June 30th. I will be dismantling my tank and moving the livestock on Wednesday so that the movers can move my big tanks. Let me know if any of you can help me with containers and labor. Even moral support would help as well. I will try to use Harry's fish catching method as well although I may not go as far as draining the tank all the way till fish are flapping around on the bottom of the tank...

You've got to drain it anyhow, why stress the fish by chasing them all around the tank when you can wait a few minutes when they're real easy to catch.

Just don't let 'em dry out and they'll be fine.

So here is the update on my move.

The move of my reef tank has been a disaster unfortunately.
I lost all my SPS's and LPS's. I have some zoanthids left, clinging to dear life in a brute container.

So this is what happened.
I moved all my fish and corals to large tubs on the day before the move. They were looking good during the day. However, just about all powerheads stopped up with loose sponges and other debris during the night, and fish seemingly succumbed to the low oxygen with no flow. That obviously started a chain reaction. I found all the fish dead early in the morning and all SPS's were dying as well.

On the day of the move, the room temperature of the fish room was also high due to people going in and out through it all day long. I was too busy to pay attention to the remaining corals during the move. At night I did frantic water changes, but I could not save the majority of my livestock.

It's really heartbreaking. I have been too busy with the move and work to think about it till now.

On the bright side, I can restart the reef in the way I want. I still have rocks. I don't know how alive they are, but I am curing them to restart.

I never knew what a pain in the neck to cure rocks with dead or dying sponges!! The water turned black with oily (protein?) stuff on the surface. They no longer smell bad after a week or so of curing, though. I guess I keep curing the rock until I can put the tank back together. It is still in pieces. I need to reinstall the stand pipes and test the tank for water tightness. I am hoping that it will hold water fine since the movers appeared to be gentle with it.

I hope someone can help me put the tank back together - I can certainly use moral support if not physical one !!
The fish room looks like an unsurmountable pile of junks. The rest of the house looks that way, too...LOL.

So sorry this happened to you! I happened across this thread a while ago and was following as I also find myself moving soon only a couple miles away from where I reside now. I hope that you are able to sort through things once you settle in and rebuild even bigger and better. Keep the faith!

I hated to hear this. I am reluctant to say that you can make it better this time, because it was beautiful before, but I am sure you will. If you need something I can provide, please don't hesitate to ask. I think I am still right around the corner.

Sounds like your tank room looks like my room does all the time. I'm sure you will get it all straightened out.

I can spare a handful of chaeto if that would help.

I just relocated a bunch of rocks to a tub outside on the back porch.
Another batch is still cycling in the garage.
Curing rocks is taking such a long time. With dead sponges, micro stars, and worms, the water surface got a dark, oily looking film.
I am tempted to do a water change, but maybe I should just let it cycle for a while... I am too busy, tired, and lazy.
I don't have a hung on the back skimmer unfortunately, and my tub does not have any room to accommodate my big Octopus skimmer.
I wonder if I should get a kiddie pool...

Can you put a board over the tub and put the skimmer on it? I would do a water change if I were you.

Okay, I will do a water change, then.
I don't know how to rig up the in-sump type Octopus skimmer outside of a tub. There is practically no room in the tub at the moment except for a Mag Drive 7, which I am using to keep the water circulated.

Thank you for the kind words, Lindsey.

It was tough for the past month and a half. I packed the house and dealt with contractors to get both new house and old house ready all by myself while my husband Reilly worked his butt off at his office.

Since my old house is finally ready for sale, I can now concentrate on rebuilding my reef and my household. I still have a lot of unpacking to do. My garage is inundated with all my aquarium stuff (placed around my Reilly's bass boat to his dismay.)

I hope I will be able to go to some frag swaps this fall to restock my tank
