Need help with NaNO3 dosing (increasing nitrates)

Update. Came home to a nightmare. Tank looking much much worse than yesterday. Dinos growing pretty much on every coral. Lps and sps. Even chalices. Started to dose peroxide. Follow my Russ's advice. Don't have 24 interval pump, so set up a 8 interval pump for 6 min of dosing. I have nothing to loose at this point.

aww man. hate when the hard hit happens. there just isnt much you can do.

if it is an 8 interval, try 5ml per....

not sure if the cleaner shrimp can take it.
also make sure the whites are off. just turn em off completely.

Thanks Russ. I turned white off on Sunday. Things got worse Monday. I also took out some chaeto Sunday. That may have contributed to increase in dinos. Who knows. They are attacking the coral polyps. Sad to look at.

Should I turn off actinics also?

itll be temporary before they come back with the lights on.
i hate watching the polyps get invaded by dinos. really is gut wrenching.

if you can get a spare 40 gallon tank and place the corals in there you could wait out the DT.

while actinics reduce growth a ton, whites really bring it out.

you could lights out today and have lights on during night.

i lost a hyperberry and skydopple and a red milli due to dino's invading the polyp areas. smooth skinned acros faired better.

I have a 40 gal but no live rock ready. Cooking rock now. Don't want a cycle to happen with coral in the qt. will lower dose to 5 ml as per your suggestion. Thanks

keep us posted. the next week will be trying...

Update. Still no change. Been dosing 6 ml 8 times per day peroxide. No white lights, just blues and actinics. Still tissue necrosis and Dino's everywhere. Dino's so bad that they actually clogged up the algae scrubber. The only things unaffected are the clam, anemone and select sps.

if you lights out... make sure it is at least 2 days. preferably 3.

the small doses do more than the "big one".

however. if you are nuke happy....

this will not solve it. but itll knock em in to next week....

remove clam, all sps, and shrimp.

go 1 ml per 1 gallon.

itll knock em in to next week... but they will come back. fish will not die. albeit it will stress them.

do not expect any sps to survive the nuke. however they can be transfered back in the DT within 24 hours.

lps and softies will also live. so will snails.

i am not sure about meat eating corals like acans. thats a toss up. i hve none.

And to make things worse, I'm leaving next week with my family to Florida for 5 days.

Should I dip corals before moving them to qt? I have revive, coral rx, peroxide

Do a massive water change, siphoning out as much junk as possible. It's likely that dosing nitrate is killing things off in the tank (corals, snails, small inverts., etc.), fueling the growth of every nuisance in your tank. Wet skim to help the process.

Targeted dosing of hydrogen peroxide will only help if you're removing the dead material immediately after. Otherwise, you're producing decaying material in the tank that will contribute to your problems.

Stopped dosing nitrates two days ago. No change with dinos as of yet. Still dosing 5 ml peroxide 8 times per day. Fish are fine. Corals not so much. Gonna keep this up for another week then take out all left over corals and start over. More updates for follow

Heave green slime on the back wall. Does anyone know what it is?
