Need some help.

Im assuming your referring causing the mush.
No I think the mush came from the rock not being dried all the way. Then of course having pores just added to the problem. Makes me wonder if this one rock wasn't causing me issues this whole time...

I am a big fan of MB7. I also have a bottle of seachems stability on hand until I can acquire more. I'm reluctant to run GFO, though I probably should. My nutrients have been stable for a couple months now. I'd hate to mess that up.

yea the gfo would be just to pull silicates and other nasties. And trust me I know. My gfo is 6 years old. I literally use table spoons in a bag.

Now Im curious as to how they make and dry it. I assumed it was pressed and fired. clearly a bad batch.

Thats kind of fancy! I always imagined an guy holding a long tube, watching thick chunks of mystery rock fall to a vat and then pushed outside. Just my guess lol

No, thats Walt Smith rock. Hellloooo....

That by the way Id use as its not mined ancient coral, its bits and Pieces and floor sweepings. .

It's man made rock from BRS lol. i actually suspect the complete opposite. I think they shipped me rock that wasn't dry.

Hey guys, thanks for tagging me here!

This is pretty strange and I can't say that I've seen the insides of these rocks turn to mush. The Reef Saver rock is actually mined from very old coral beds and not man made at all.

I can say that I have noticed very slight "melting" after trying to reshape some aquascape after a tank upgrade, but it was really only around the chisel while I tried to hack it up. It sounds like you are able to break through some top layer and the entire insides of the rock can be scooped or poured out? If you had a video that shows the rock before chiseling, while chiseling, and after rinsing the remnants I could share with the other reefers here to see if they can share some experiences and insight as well. :)

Thanks!

Thank you! This certainly changes things! I definitely was under the impression that this was man-made.

Unfortunately, I've let this rock sit outside under the sun for the last two days :(.. Initially this piece was untouched from when I received it. This weekend was the first time I tried breaking it down.

Could you explain the cleaning process that takes place for this type of rock prior to being sold?

Dang, I was hoping we could take a closer look at it. :( If you do see it again, by all means please tag me in the video and I'll have the crew check it out with me. :)

Our guys in the rock room do their best to clear off any immediately loose pieces before shipment, but as far as what happens at our supplier's location, I couldn't speculate as to their cleaning process.
