Need your opinion on switching salt to save $

HW Wiegandt at brs supply
It doesn’t have any anti caking crud in it . Very clean . It has a low dkh

What size tank? What are you keeping in it?

If you're changing water that often, your parameters should be stable.

Why are you doing such large water changes???
450g system. 110g a week is 25% and I don’t run any filtration equipment other than skimmer. I use water changes for export of detritus and keeps my system fresh and clean!

I love brightwells neomarine. It’s $80 on BRS and such but can get a 150g box for $60 on Amazon. It’s what I use and matches everything you want.

7ish dkh
420 calc
1400 mag
I was looking at brightwell, I’ve used in the past and always had particulates in my mixing bin from this salt so I’ve switched since.

I was figuring if I wanna save money I’m gonna have to do some extra steps. I just figured I’d ask before I go ahead and make my choice, maybe there was something new out there! Sometimes I don’t stay on top of new new!
Right so you are will to take extra steps, as your op reads as if you were not willing to take extra steps, that’s why I wrote what I did.

I’m not trying to, but push comes to shove, it sounds like I’m gonna have to, atleast from the IO perspective. That’s why I was intrigued by fritz or live aquaria since they are full synthetics at close to 8dkh, and I wouldn’t mind running 1 dkh higher than 7, but if there was something out there better for what I’m looking for best I ask before. I might just buy small size of each just to try each one and evaluate what would work best. But I’d like to save the money and ask so I don’t have to go through the trial of each one.

I switched from TM to RS Coral Pro during the Turkey debacle and am very happy.
I’ve always considered rs coral pro because of its elevated values, not dosing supplements and just performing water changes to keep up with demand. Issue I see is the alk too high for frequent water changes. My lfs uses it because that’s his best cost salt in bulk. But he’s doing daily water changes to replace what’s been lost as well as keeps his parameters stable from coral demand.

IO will test out at 8.5-8.6 if you let it mix 24 hours. Just doing the math if you're doing 45g you're only getting a blip on the radar of a move to 7.15 from 7.

I change 10% weekly and don't adjust anything. I run my alk at 7.5

I wait for sales and stock up whenever they show up which is at least every few months. chewy, amazon, pet smart, ect. have sales on IO with free shipping. Your talking about a 50%+ saving over TM.

If instant ocean drops that low after multiple hours I might as well just run my alk at that amount 8.5-8.6. No harm in that and save some dough. How’s instant ocean cleanliness wise, Is it unbearable if you let it sit? I’ve gone a few weeks without changing water after making up my bin, and haven’t had issues in the past from storage.

I was recently started using Red Sea, It mixes fairly quickly and is pretty clean. I used to use Instant Ocean and before that Reef Crystals and both of them left a certain amount of crud. I think Red Sea might leave a very small amount of brown film on the container in a few places but I am not really sure (it might be from left over crud from IO). The other thing I like is the two bags I have run are spot on for parameters (IO could be really off which is why I switched).

Try to reduce your weekly waterchanges, change less or less often. Or consider not changing water at all and just dose your elements.

I appreciate your response, nonetheless, I’m not looking to rewrite my method. I aim for weekly water changes, do I do them every time no, I just do as often I can because of the ease and convenience when I make 110 gallons worth. Just looking to see what’s peoples thoughts on salt, before I spend money on something I may or may not like. Tmpr really sets the bar. I just don’t like the price and figured I can get away with something else instead.
