Neptune screws up again with the trident

Dude what the heck? I’m setting mine up tonight and thought I was crazy.
Why is there one male and one female side the the one link cable? Unusable
Very annoying. I’m quiet confused they have a product that isn’t ready to go right out of the box..
Guess I’ll be calling Neptune tomorrow

Par for the course for Neptune unfortunately. I have an Apex and find myself using it less and less to control anything. It’s now being relegated to a few probes that actually work—like the temperature and PH sensors—and to control the power strips. Everything else like the lights and pumps (Kessil, Reef Octopus, Gyres, etc.), I just rather use the controllers that come with those devices, which are miles more advanced and bug-free than the Apex. I still can’t believe you can’t update the firmware via WiFi.

Great well I am glad to know I’m not the only one
We are both screwed

Sucks very unfortunate. Although, dude I know plenty of people who would love be in your shoes to at least have one despite not being able to use it and having to order another cable.
Best things in life are worth the wait, chillax admire the new toy and know you'll be using it in no time.

Cool toy? yes.
$600 piece of equipment without the right cable? Odd, to say the least.

They sent you an extension cable. You should contact them. You shouldn't be responsible for spending $ on the right cable. Unfortunately, knowing Neptune, it'll take 3 weeks.

Yea well I sure won’t be paying for one
I’ll be expecting a replacement cable sent at no cost

And I agree, we are lucky to have it and it is awesome
I tried mine with my Dos cable and power supply
It’s pretty sick , but still I mean what the heck Neptune
It’s a flagship product, there quality control is really terrible

Plus I will say this, whatever crappy factory is making it I’m china is fairly pathetic
The plastic the case is made from is right up there with a kids toy from
The grocery store. I hope the guts are better built

Screw that
I will be on the horn with marine depot first thing in the AM. They either send me a proper cable or an RMA and they can have the thing back. I don’t need it that bad

Quite the rant

And? They'll take it back and sell to any of the other 100+ people that are still waiting for one. You got a unit with an incorrect cable. Big deal, someone in packaging made an error on an obviously small amount of units, and they stuck an extension cable in there by mistake.

My warehouse guys ship $300,000+ worth of product monthly. Guess what....? Even the customers ordering 75K worth of material will have a minor error with their order sometimes. It's what happens when you employ human being to complete a task instead of a robot. We are not infallible.

If you are going to act like this at the slightest little hiccup with a piece of equipment, well Reef2Reef is going to love you because you'll be spending more time on this website ranting than enjoying the hobby.

It's Neptune Systems. Of course it won't be better built. Their cheap build quality (and playschool design) is a staple of the company at this point.

Seriously - you got a unit packaged with the incorrect cable and you go off like that? Have you actually contacted Neptune to give them a chance to fix their mistake? I'm guessing the units are produced and packaged in China or somewhere in the Far East, so Neptune may not even know there's a problem until you let them know.

If Neptune was refusing to fix the problem or wanted to charge you for the new cable, then I could understand, but to go on a rant like that for a simple packaging mistake before you've even given the company a chance to rectify it makes you seem completely unreasonable.

So magically a trident shows up at my door the other day

There are 2 options to power this unit, either with an OPTIONAL power supply and Aqua bus cable or a 1 link cable

So when I read the instructions I’m thinking ok cool, I will use the one link since it comes with a 1 link cable and I have all my one link
Ports open

So then I see, they send the wrong cable

They put in the box a 1 link cable that is male on one side and female on the other

The ports on the energy bar require and a male connector , surprise surprise so are the ports on the trident

So these clowns with all the hype of this thing are actually shipping them with the wrong cable
Now I have to place yet another order wait another week to use the thing

So out of the box without an additional
Purchase there is no way to run this item

Yea thanks Neptune , really appreciate it
Rant over
Sorry to hear this and hopefully neptune will resolve it ASAP!, They sent the correct 1link with mine so hopefully that was just a isolated screw up with someone during packaging. Good Luck and Grats on getting a unicorn!

They’re assembled in the US. Saw a presentation on the Trident at Macna and it was impressive. Labor intensive, not outsourced to China. This is why there is a lack of supply of Tridents.
For being hand assembled in the US you’d expect the correct cable, I mean come on.
People defending Neptune are hilarious, great company, but honestly a noteworthy error on their part.
$600 sitting under my tank with everything but a power cable. Bummer. I’m sure they’ll resolve the issue quickly, but noteworthy nonetheless.

In my opinion the mindstream is better. Both have their flaws but I’m going mindstream- more test more often and pricing will be about even in the long term. More user friendly too

I don’t have a trident but i think you are going to find the cable was intentional. My understanding is the trident goes close but above your sump, typically further away from your other apex stuff. So my guess is you get an extension as the standard 1-link cables aren’t long enough.

If I am correct, and it is intentional, then It’s odd you get a product you can’t really use until you buy a second piece I.e power brick or standard 1-link cable.

My trident had zero issues out of the box and couldn't be happier with the unit or the customer support I got from Johanna at marine depot that helped me finally grab one. I'm thinking it was just an honest mistake someone made during packaging, we're all humans and sometimes we makes mistakes but I'm sure Neptune will make good on fixing the problem. I'm sure this company must have put in countless hours of engineering into this product and I for one am very grateful to have one!

How can you sit there and spread Miss information like that. “More user friendly” do you own a trident? Probably not so don’t say things like that if they are factually untrue. The trident is insanely user friendly. You know how long it took to setup? About 30 seconds. It’s one line to the sump and one to a waste bottle and your done. No setup in the app, just click the run button and a while
Later you get test results. The trident like it or not is many things but difficult to use is NOT one of them.

Incorrect
1 link cables are 10 feet

Dude you really need to re-evaluate your reactions. First, someone probably made a simple mistake, everyone does. Secondly, this mistake has no bearing on the efficacy of the trident.. Ive had it running for a month now. It works pretty awesome, and I love it. The mindstream /Trident debate will probably rage on for a long time...

Situation sucks for sure, to get something that expensive and not have the correct hardware in the box stinks. However for a couple bucks and trip to Office Depot/ Walmart for a universal DC power supply and USB 2.0 cable you’d have been in business within an hour.
FWIW my first Trident had a loose tube on the manifold causing reagent and water to unknowingly leak down the shelf it was on while diagnosing the issue of “no water sample”
