So I have leopards in my display and I have historically only bought them locally after they have been eating and looking healthy. I just received my first shipped leopard wrasse from live aquaria. It is in an established QT tank with a sand bed. It has already nipped at frozen food so that is good. I'm trying to figure out if I should prophylactically treat with prazi. She has been in there just over an hour and I am including a video of behavior.

I’d let it settle in a few days, perhaps give it some more tank structure and dim the lights a bit. If you run prazipro be sure to increase the aeration and watch for cloudy water. Ultimately, I wonder about perhaps using General Cure? That has prazi, but the metro in it provides some benefit against protozoans.

Do you have a recommend timeline for general cure, particularly if you aren't sure what is the exact disease?

Sorry, not sure what you mean by timeline? I’d start it in 36 hours or so after arrival, two doses, 48 hours apart, then a water change 24 hours after the second dose. To be honest, these wrasse make me nervous, and are one of the few fish I’d ever consider risking going right into a DT...though I’m scared of doing that, so I just avoid them (grin).

I just meant how long to dose as a qt preventative measure. I am not sure how long metro takes to do its thing

Not sure if she is going to make it. Doing a lot of laying on the bottom with fast breathing, then will randomly swim around for a little while. Was even laying on the bottom upside down for a while. Prazi has been in since this afternoon with an air stone.

Yes, it's respiration rate is around 130 BPM, so a bit fast. The lethargy is of course a very bad sign. At this point, I don't see any clear treatable symptoms.

I wonder - I had heard that LiveAquaria now drop-ships from one the the 104st wholesalers in Los Angeles. If that's true, I really wouldn't try this genus of wrasse from them, it's possible that this fish had arrived from overseas just a day or two before, and then got "double bounced" being shipped to your house....too much stress I think. Would Divers Den be a better choice, or one of the pre-quarantine firms?

I received 3 Blue Star Leopard wrasses from LA awhile back. I was successful with all 3 and they were QT’d for 40+ days. They are all doing amazing in my DT.

I attached a link to my post about it. I think the key for me was I waited until they ate for a couple days before Prazipro.

Here is the link:

Sheesh man, I wish I could help. Good luck, these are my all-time favorite fish

That’s great, I would probably remove that Prazipro after 72 hours or sooner if he isn’t eating.
If it's somehow still alive when I get home from work I will be doing a 50% water change in the qt. I also have two more blue stars arriving tomorrow so I'm considering dropping the salinity in the qt down to a closer range to what the LA came in at. I run the tank at 35 ppt and the leopards yesterday came in at 27. I'd like to get down closer to 30 for the new arrivals.

I think that’s a great play. The only issue now is if the current Blue Star has some terrible disease you will be introducing it to these two right out the gate. I also purchased a ton of Tisbe copepods for them to eat in first few days to keep them alive!

Keep me posted on how things are going for you!

I dumped a container of tisbe pods from algae gen about an hour before I added the wrasse. Good point on the possibility of transferring a disease, but I would think that if it was velvet the wrasse would be dead by now and flukes should no longer be an issue. What else should I be concerned about?

The algaegen pods take forever to develop & multiply. I would recommend the Reef nutrition brand of tigger pods! I agree that if it were velvet fish would be dead. Ich is another story.

Holy crap... Can't even believe it. Nipped at some rods food a little bit but not much. Going to do a big water change.

That’s great!!

I had the most luck with Hikari frozen mysis soaked in Selcon! It is smaller in size and perfect for their smaller mouths to get them really going on frozen!
