New Clam Mantle Extension

It makes me think that the cold weather just doesn't work with clams, especially smaller ones. I've yet to successfully keep a DD clam when the temperature on delivery day was less than 60 degrees.

I don't think cold weather temp killing them since the package content heat pack and heat pack still darn warm to touch after I got the box from UPS.
I would say DD selling unhealthy clams for the most part, I was doubt the clam health from their picture but I was thought it's just shrunk cause of the light when DD took the picture of the clam, my doubt is right and my eyes never fail, I just took the risk and hope my doubt is wrong but....it's always right!

DD clams must be carried something since the bad Squamosa died then pretty much I lost 1 clam a day, It doesn't matter what I'm trying to save my clams, they are dying 1 by 1, It's my fault that I didn't QT the new clams from DD, I was trusted them with their huge glory introduction of their huge "facility" and how they are care for their live stock...It's ALL LIED and it's cost me the deaths of all other clams in my tank because of their SICKED clams.

I do not think it is all lies. They have a pretty solid reputation and I do not believe they are selling sick clams. I do think that shipping is really hard on these little guys and I do not think they do the best at packaging the clams. They tape the heat pack to the lid and the clam ends up down in the bottom of the box away from it. My last one was freezing cold when I got it.

I have one coming from DD tomorrow and one coming from ORA Florida. We shall see how it goes.

Oh no!! Did you lose ALL your clams?!?!?!

My order today came in and both clams were packed well and responsive through acclimation and they maxima opened up well in my tank and the derasa was getting there. I had to go back to work but hope they will be doing well when I get home.

Hard to get them to stay open to get a top down photo.

Well my large derasa clam looks like garbage and i think its going to kick the bucket. I have had it since at least 2007 and its span is about 13 to 14 inches. It has to be related adding the sick Squamy from DD. I did a super large water change so fingers crossed it bounces back. If the clam doesnt make it I am offically retiring from the hobby.

That really sucks. Was it an ORA Squamosa? I purchased an ORA Squamosa a month ago and it ended up wiping out half of my clam population. I wonder if something is hitchhiking alongside this batch of clams.

No it wasnt an ora clam, atleast I do not think. It was one of the Blue Squamosa clams.

More and more folks reported that DD selling sick clams and then wiped out their old clams.

The clam looks good for a portion of the day but is staying retracted more than usual. Its late to open when lights turn on and closes well before the lights go off. Not sure what is going on with it. No pyramind snails and no fish picking at it. Yesterday it spent about an hour shooting water out of its siphon. Similar to a spawning event but nothing coming out other than water. Anyone have any ideas?
