New lineatus wrasse

I paid $175 shipped for a lineatus "female" that is actually a male [emoji51]

And just within the last week I saw a lineatus "trio" for sale, which was really 2 males and one female.
(nope, not naming the vendor!)
Ha let the third one transition then you have the prettiest fight to the death ever.

Depends on the tank size. I had an existing male then added 2 supermales...not a single squabble, nothing, nada, none

The price is on par; near the low end of the typical range of rhomboidalis males.
Anything can be called a "super male" (you'd be surprised what I've seen over the years). We'd need a picture to validate/deny that label. More than anything, it's a marketing term.

Is this a super male?

Yes, in an 8'+ tank you can bend the conventions of fishkeeping.

I would not call that a supermale. Below is a better example.

What you can get away with in your enormous tank is a whole lot more than someone with even a 300g tank can get away with. Your "rules" are different. ;)

Nope. Transitional male, yes.

I saw it too.....but it only said Trio, not female Trio or Male/2 females. I think they were trying to give a good deal ;-)

I recently added a scribble angel to the tank. He isn't bothering anyone but is quite active in swimming and eating. Since then, The lineatus has become really shy and not coming out of his cave a whole lot. It's been 4 days. Should I be concerned?

For the little time that the lineatus is out, he is just quickly out to get food and would swim away as long as the larger angel comes close. The angel really had showed zero interest or reaction towards the wrasse.

I'd say give it a little more time. He's probably just adjusting to the new fish. As long as he is still coming out to eat I wouldn't worry too much.

He isn't eating aggressively tho. Just darts out to get a few pieces of the mysis that's floating in nearby water stream, or quickly pick up some pellets off the floor then darts back.

I would agree with this.

If he isn't eating that much, try to feed less food per feeding, but increase the frequency of feedings. This should also make it bolder.

Thanks for all your inputs. I will wait a few more days. I may consider adding a cleaner wrasse cuz I used to have a small golden nugget clown in there and the lineatus was out more after the clown fish addition. I had to move the tiny clown cuz he was punking my scribble angel. Downside is I don't really want to add any fish if I don't have to, even for a QT.

I wouldn't; it would just add to the general stress levels in a QT.

Thanks. I look at the lineatus is his hiding places everyday and he is still alert and swimming from one hideout to the next. With no aggression from other fish, I hope he comes around again soon.

Update: I used the turkey baster to target feed him yesterday morning, and that seemed to trigger a sense of security. He was out more than a few seconds by the night feed and is out swimming with the rest this morning. @evolved , @eatbreakfast , & @ngoodermuth , thanks for all your help!
