New Nero Pump from AquaIllumination

Not trying to be a hater at all. But can anyone explain how this new design and tech pump is exactly like the Reefbreeders RP26?
Ps: I dont work for either company. How is the AI so innovative? Is it the blue colored impeller?

I’d like to see the two side by side but I think the Nero is smaller. They certainly share the same technology. I still like the Reefbreeders but with the AI you are paying for the features.

I remember the Reefbreeders being just a tad smaller than an MP40 in diameter. The Nero seems to be slightly bigger than a MP10.

Thank you for the clarification Greg. Looking closer I noticed the impellers on the Nero seem larger as well. Im sure that will add to wider flow.

It would be hard to have a wider flow than the RB. The RB has a wider outlet. The Nero is rated at 3000+ gph. So coupled with a smaller outlet would also mean more velocity (distance of the throw).

Also, I'm not sure the Nero spins in reverse as well. The RB can make some amazing waves due to this feature.

I've not been in the market for a power-head for a while .... so was unaware of the RB. Have folks been generally happy with them. I'm basically looking for something in place of my WAV pumps that can mount to the overflow and not be quite so obtrusive.

Similarities with the RB and Octo pulse except they have the power cord in the tank these don't.

I'm wondering how wide the flow will be. That's a big factor for me. It's also kind of a "tweener", twice as much flow as an MP10 but only 2/3 of what an MP40 has. I'm very interested. I'm currently running two MP40's and two MP10's on my tank but these are very tempting.

....... the AI lights use their own app and can now (as of last week) be controlled without any addons from apex as well

Thanks, I didn't know that. If so and these can be controlled with the AI app, they should be controllable via Apex without add on's as well!

The Octo Pulse is a completely different design. It uses what is referred to as a pancake motor. It still used the traditional propeller for water flow. It is also revolutionary as I don’t think any other pumps in the hobby use this motor.

Although these are very nice, I cannot see spending $600 on 2 pumps that still have cords in the water. Where I do believe that they are not cheaply made, they are still just a pump. Companies need to realize that most of us are not willing to spend exuberant amounts of cash on parts that just don't add up. They should have come in under $200 a piece and they would have sold the stock instantly.

I would also like to see them side by side. I have the Reefbreeders pump and was quite underwhelmed with it, but than again, I am running it in a frag tank.

If cords in the water are a big concern for you then this pump is not for you. Good news is you certainly have a lot to choose from when it comes to pumps with cords in the water. You have the Ecotech Marine Vortec line as well as every other pump that is still in their box not being used. LOL

Agreed... I don't see a bunch of new "break-through" design cues here... Paying for the programmability;Greedy?

Nah... Not cutting it for me at $300 a pop.

I'll wait for all the people that get these and dump their mp40's now ;Brb

sum of the parts + costs of assembly + packaging + marketing + shipping to distributor + distributor profit + shipping to retailer+ retail profit = Retail price
