New Nero Pump from AquaIllumination

Is this new pump not Bluetooth LE only? If so this means no Apex Control in the near future unless there's a BXM module (Bluetooth eXpansion Module) from Apex coming.

Had it included WiFi, with the recent changes to Apex, it would be an easier uptake to thousands who use Apex.

Still a very nice looking device and seems to have some good potential.

Probably the guys at reef builders, dunno, maybe they need to wait until the units ships to publish their reviews

My concern about this pumps is definitively their price, this pumps should not cost more than 200 bucks, we are used to the 200 bucks price for their lights but this pumps at 300 bucks are going to be pretty hard to sell

Seems about the same price point when comparing to ecotech. Controller built in so $149 less than the MP40WQD. Which is similar comparing the prime to xr-15.
That said.
I probably wont switch, emailed current about their plans and said they said a battery backup and more pump modes are coming in the future(they didnt have a date to give me which eliminates any worries i had with the loop system.

It's $50 less than the MP40wQD. The price and output flow seems to fit in right between the MP40 and the MP10.

I wouldn't mind trying one, I use a mp40 and supplement with a octo pump and before that a wave puck and like both but for the extra 50 a mp40 is a lock

I saw one at my LFS over the weekend and have been thinking about it since. They had the return line and this one powerhead on what i believe was a red sea 170. With a high side mount on a short simple pulse it swayed all the torch and other wavy frags in all places of the tank, and i saw movement in all corners. Granted its a big pump for the tank, but very little effort / energy to accomplish nice flow. The larger diameter makes it a little more noticeable overall whereas with my Tunze 6040 i can hide more easily. I am very curious to hear more about it here when released and comparisons to the octopulse 2.

quick follow up post here... i was back at my LFS and found out the person that told me it was an AI pump was incorrect. I have not seen this new unit sorry for the confusion... it was a neat little pump but not the AI. The AI will be much smaller. Looking forward to seeing that released.

I am going to be running on my new build 3 Hydra HD LED's fixtures, so I am going to go with 2 Nero5 pumps on each side of my 150 which will have a Synergy 20'' External Overflow box installed.
My new GHL & SCA 150 build is coming very soon!

If it's going on the back of the tank MP10. Anywhere else Nero 5. To be fair though they aren't that comparable. The Nero 5 is more powerful then the MP10 but less powerful then the MP40. It reminds me of the long gone MP20 in that it's mid powerful.

I've been running my nero 5 for a few weeks now on a 3x2x2 90 and I like the wide flow and how easy it is to adjust but I feel on a 5 foot or longer tank I'd probably go with something with more power.

I am getting ready to buy tomorrow either 2 MP40QWD, from BRS or two Reef Octo Pulse 4'S powerheads but just can't make up my mind up! The only reason why i AM leaning toward Ecotech Marine IS B/C I run already 2 Vectra return pumps and they can be all linked to my Eotech backup battery! What are your thoughts?

I've never used the Octopus powerheads. You mention you already have the ecotech battery backup, that might be a reason to go that way.
