New salty 29g biocube

I have a 180 DT with a 100g sump...about 225 twv showcase reef....and a 135 corner bowfront in my home office... The corner bowfront is getting broken down soon....

Yep. I have changed very little. I added a protein skimmer and uv sanitizer. I also changed to filter pads that I cut to size and am throwing it out every few days to try and get nitrates lower.

Lol. If she did, you might regret saying that.... especially if that scale translates to other things that can be even pricier.... such as shoes, purses, jewelry etc. She may actually wish you would think on that scale for those items! If only the desires could sync up!!!

Added: I have a friend whose mom collects precious GEMSTONES!!!! *Shocked face* :$ Now that is an entirely different scale!

As I mentioned above, I went to a new location for a LFS. I told him I was thinking about a 300 gallon. I felt like he was talking me out of it. He kept pointing out 50 gallon RedSeas and 100 g RedSeas. He told me he thought I would really be okay with a 120. He didn't ask about the location of the room or what I was wanting to put in it or how much research I had done. I volunteered some of the fish I might like one day. He told me if I only put in 5 fish and got a great filtration system, I could really get by with a 120g or 150g. "The filtration is really the only thing that matters." He said the fish I was talking about may not grow full size, but that was okay. I was thinking to myself, doesn't that mean their growth is stunted and really not okay?

I also said I was really wanted to build my own so I'd understand all the mechanics really well, and his response to me was that RedSeas were nice because you don't have to figure that all out. You can just trust that they have everything included. I'm not in a rush at all and want to make sure I get things right. I don't want to spend a ton of money just to decide it's not what I wanted (too small or too big).

I was super confused. I know for a fact that I don't want to go smaller than a 180 tank and he was trying to talk me into something smaller. So my question is, why? Would I really be better off with a much smaller set up or was he just trying to get me to buy something he currently had on the floor? I know for a fact he wasn't hearing what I was saying, because he responded to me wanting to do it myself with "the nice thing is that you don't have to". I don't even have a place to put the tank at the moment. I told him about needing to rip up the carpet and put tile down and he agreed that was super smart.

I'm not normally one to jump on the gender bandwagon, but that sounds an awful lot like "well sweetie, it sounds like you're alternator needs replacing."

So, someone posted a 60 gallon rimless cube on a local facebook group. He sold it to me for $85. I decided it might be fun to play around with. I suspect I may end up putting it in the nook that my current biocube holds - it seems to be the perfect size to fill up the spot. If not, perhaps it will be a QT tank or something one day. It doesn't seem to be tempered, so I may just use it to experiment with drilling a hole. The pictures are below.

On a side note. My son has decided that this will be his new tank and the biocube can be mine now. I am also officially the best mom he can ever imagine. At least I have a partner in crime!

holy cow! huge pest in that tank. I'd remove it and bleach everything. It could easily take another 12-14 years of patience and love to grow it to the point it can live on its own

Lol... I do think I may try one again. I just didn't have any fish at the time, so I wasn't feeding heavy or frequently. I think they were starving and eating whatever they could get their mouths on.

It's the one that's designed for a biocube. I'm not entirely sure which it is, but nastry junk comes out of it, so I suppose it must be working.

Yeah, I hate doing that too, but I realize that very well may have been what was going on as well. I'm always stumped when I meet people who are surprised that women can know things.... crazier things have happened.

I'll clean it up.... and cross my fingers that it survives my drilling attempts. All signs point to it not being tempered glass.

Was thinking about your experience with the salesperson trying to down-sell you on a smaller tank. Hope I didn't rush to judgment. It's possible it wasn't quick-buck greed or latent sexism. They've probably seen more than on person hell-bent for leather end up flaming out having spent a mint. I'm remembering my old sailboat and what a good idea that seemed like at the time ;Vomit
