So I am having a heavy infestation of aiptasia in my 180 and i am tired or battling. I am now ready to eliminate them but I have a few questions. Will they go into my overflows and eat any aptasia in there if any? 2 I have a purple pseudochromis, melanurus wrasse and a shy coris wrasse only awake for 6hrs a day. I can remove if necessary but have heard that the nudis reproduce quickly what shall I do. They eat the whole thing so they most likly wont come back right?

I tried these with a christmas wrasse and a yellow coris and the wrasses devoured the nudis before they could work. Definitely remove the fish. Also, they will not take care of the ones in overflows and sump to my knowledge. As said, my experience was not great with them. I hope others chime in.

I added 2 medium and 4 small Nudi’s to my biocube 32 which contains a small yellow coris wrasse. Only ever saw one nudi after addition day early one morning before lights came on however every single aptasia is gone. I’ll estimate I had created a small army of 100 Appy using other methods of eradication. It’s been about 4 months since i declared the tank clear and have yet to see another pest.

Can’t speak specifically to your overflow question but if there’s a healthy number of aptasia back there then you could always put a couple Nudi’s directly in there.

Save yourself $ and wasted time, buy a Matted File Fish, it will get along with all of your fish and become a valued member of your community........AND it won't die after it eats all the aiptasia in a month or two like the Nudi's will, my File fish eats anything I feed these days.

Berghia will work eventually only if they successfully colonize in your tank, in the meanwhile, they are blind, very susceptible to predators as are their egg strings, they get caught up in overflows, power heads and filters, they don't get along with heavy water flow either, I used to see mine floating aimlessly until it either reattached itself to the rocks or was eaten by a fish or shrimp....not to mention EXPEN$IVE......File Fish $36.99

As far as I know the Wrasse didn’t touch them. If it had then I’d most certainly still see aptasia. The Nudi’s are nocturnal hunters and as i said I only ever saw one after adding the original 6 to the tank. That was towards the end and they were probably starting to starve.

Funny thing on my end. I had a great copperband that ate them and kept tank perfect. Then it ate my lps so re-homed it. Then I tried berghias and wrasse had a lovely expensive dinner. Tried Aiptasia X to frustrating levels. Then pretty much gave up. Considered a filefish, but thought my others would pick on it too much. Then, my kids saw a blue spotted puffer they had to have. It would work with my inhabitants, so I got him.

To this day, I have only one aiptasia left in the tank. Either they hated the toby or the toby ate them. Lucky I guess. I do not recommend a toby for every tank though. Great fish. Like dogs. Eats everything out of my hand including my fingers a bit. :)

The nudis hide during the day, come out long after lights out. Ive had nudis populate with a 6 line and 2 mandarins. Although I'm not sure if I got lucky, I've only seen them out at night while the fish are asleep. They breed by the hundreds if not thousands, and when the jobs done, can trade them or sell them. Ive been breeding and selling them for years. If your not trying to have a new resident fish, nudis are the best route to go. The juices and potions usually make it worse depending on your infestation.

I bought two matted filefish and will be selling them back...they are picking at my corals and have yet to touch my aiptasia. to me the berghias are my last resort.

How long have you had them? My File fish picked at a few LPS for a while but did far less damage than the aiptasia did, I doubt you gave them enough time to begin to do the job, it took a few weeks to notice the change and a few months to complete the job....just sayin.

I tried to some nudis for an outbreak a while back. I have a resdient Melanurus as well. Here's where I went wrong.

I also added some peppermint shrimp at the same time. So I'm honestly not sure if the nudis worked or if the peps did the trick. As said above, the nudis only came out at night while the Melanurus was sleeping so I never witnessed them being disturbed by the fish.

All I know is I no longer have aiptasia so maybe it didn't go wrong after all. I agree to skip the juices, wands and other trickery. At least in my experience, it's why I ended up with so many in the first place.

FWIW:

When I used the nudi's back in 2012 I had a six line wrasse and the nudi's still got the job done.
When I used the nudi's in 2017 the were no wrasses to be concerned about.

As already stated:
When I tried Aiptasia-X for an aiptasia breakout, the aiptasia would release spores and only made matters worse.

Filefish are hit or miss, some eat Aiptasia some ignore them. Berghia need to be placed very carefully in the aquarium a baby food jar works very well. Place them on the bottom and point the opening towards a rock and let them come out on their own. Its best to do this after the lights are off to avoid becoming an expensive meal for the fish. Once they are out they will seek out the Aiptasia and slowly get rid of them. Don’t expect to see them because they hide during the day. Mine would end up in the overflow on there own without any help from me FWIW. If all goes well they will breed and multiply as long as there is a food source. I had to purchase around 15 to get rid of a heavily infested 100 gallon reef tank. They really are miracles of nature!
