I figured this could be an interesting topic, what do you guys think everyone should have in their tanks?

For me, it’s got to be acorn barnacles if you can find them. They really just add a huge impact on the rocks and make it look so natural. Plus it adds a hiding spot to give certain fish more personality. I mean, this guy just looks like he wants to win hide and seek and go “Peek-A-Boo :D

I remember the barnacle clusters were all the rage 25 years ago when I first started reefing, though more for fish only or FOWLR systems. They are cool, though at least to me look a little out of place next to live coral in a mixed reef. But that is subjective. Definitely a cool hiding spot for fish though : )

RFA's. There just such an easy way to add some color and variety to a tank. Also my white one is a weirdo that likes to flex throughout the day. (Don't know why all the images were rotated when I uploaded them)

Though for some reason it seems they're often not sold at LFS's.

Yes! RFAs and Mini Maxis are the perfect small anemones. Your white RFA is a beautiful specimen though :)

I'm going to say a Par meter. Its something most will neglect and just go with what others that have same lights run at. Rent or Buy one. You'll be amazed to know what the PAR levels really are instead of guessing.

Amen. It’s so funny hearing people say “you don’t need a par meter, corals are adaptable. Just keep your light stable and don’t fiddle with it”. When the same could be said about any other chemical parameter than is is so crucial to test. Why swear upon rigorous phosphate tracking, when a tank can thrive anywhere between zero all the way up to over 1-2 ppm, but say measuring light output is pointless? Makes no sense. The more you know, the better understanding you can have on what makes your particular tank work and what doesn’t.

Umm how did you get such a clear photo lol you can’t even tell it’s a fish tank?:) And are the large purple clusters the Gucci of barnacles because I think so lol.

Ha ha just looked up scientific name off this fish through using Google lens, loving it lol
It is by far one of my favorite wrasse, and not just for the name. Has been a model citizen, reminds me of a puffer in terms of interacting with a person and is actually a very pretty fish. The pic does not do justice for the accent colors that it actually has.

+1 on the rock flowers. What other Cnidarian is easy, affordable (for now), readily available, completely reef safe, won't take over, and can be spawned in captivity by even the newest of beginners? Every tank I'll ever have will have a couple.
