107 degrees in the Summer.

Solids weeks of freeze in the Winter.

My sump would have to be environmentally controlled.

(outside of Dallas, TX)
Yes I'm really aware of this weather. I think just as long as I do my insulation right, then there should be no problems.

Here's a little peak at my project

Of course.

I'm looking forward to seeing your design and pics of the build. You may have hit upon a new trend that will change how people set up their tanks, save space and make displays quieter.

I'm thinking a large, open plastic tank from a farm supply store and placing it into a larger crate-like box with spray foam insulation for a good seal and a hinged lid with a good padlock on it. A protected power strip attached to the inside wall of the box for all the powered devices.

What about you? What did you have in mind?

A 6x6ft storage building. Insulation from top to bottom.

Will the shed be environmentally controlled?
Oh yes. I'll run everything digital. Ill run it to where I know what the temperature is in building. A buddy of mine is an expert for installing air units. He's also an electrician. So he's a good help.

Man, that sounds good.

I have an 8'x8' shed in the back and now you're thread has me starting to think about what I can do with it. I knew I would be upgrading my tank one day but this opens up even bigger possibilities I hadn't seriously considered before.

I'm a little confused. You said it would be an outdoor system yet it will be in an insulated cooled and heated adjoining shed? How is this different than a sump being in a nearby room within your house?

That critical distance between the shed and the house, either exposed to the elements or buried in the constantly unstable Texas soil.

That critical few feet from the shed to the house under a roof on his back porch? Doesn't seem like a big challenge.

I'm planning on doing a sun room soon and I plan on tunning a frag tank in it but I will have a heat pump in room to control temp

I have to agree with to hot. It can also get pretty cold on occasion. I don't think its worth the risk.

I managed a 1800g setup with the sump being remote in the pool closet. It's located in Frisco. The plumbing came out of the house where there were 3 commercial heater/chillers and 2 large pool pumps. The piping was only a couple feet from each side of the pumps/chillers before it entered the house and pool room. I never had any problems dealing with temp control in the 4 years of maintaining it.

Very good! What did you use for piping and did it have any additional insulation on those couple feet?

I have no room!!! Now do you get it lol. No room

It's worth the risk if I got 4 kids. And a 1yr old spoiled son. I'm running a auto top off, too many to list. 2 dc pumps running might be a little noisey. And I built my stand to where I don't need a dang step stool or ladder. I've thought about this and did alot of research. It will be a success
