Oh how annoying! Well these are full tank shots of my 70 and 125 while I figure out where my actual build thread went! Also included my 15 thats cycling, thats going to be a rock flower nem tank! Also made a YT video of my bigger tank

Very cool. I think I may have to try and swap out my lion for the right species. Yours is beautiful!

She is! She was half the size when I got her. She was at my LFS and I immediately fell in love with her as Ive always loved lionfish! She for sure was coming home with me that day! Most peaceful fish I have!

I do think people are inclined to overstock SW tanks because 1) you can get away with the additional bio-load via equipment and bio upgrades and 2) Hobbyist are unaware of actual adult size of wild specimens so we get used to seeing “stunted” aquarium specimens…
I saw some Atlantic tangs (Blue & Doctor) on a cruise…these were easily plate sized made for cornmeal fish… but in most cases we just see 6-8” specimens (max)

But yes, TBH I do slightly overstock:

650 Peninsula (160/180 total) has:
1 Moorish Idol
1 Purple Tang
1 Marine Betta
2 Lamarck Angels
2 Anthias
1 Bangai Cardinal
1 Carribean Blenny
1 Harlequin bass
,,,,might add either a couple anthias or fire fish but I’m at my limit IME

300G2 (65/80g total)
- 1 Percula
1 Flame Angel
1 Mimic tang
1 carribean blenny
1 dottyback
2 firefish

- 170 (34/45g total) …is absolutely overstocked :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
- 2 Saddleback Clowns
-yellow striped blenny (whatever it is)
- red & white goby (whatever it is)
- canary blenny
-Flameback angel

-450 (90/110g)
3 Carribean cardinal (multiple species)
1 Carribean Blue Chromis
1 Black cap basslet
1 Carribean Blenny
3 Pygmy angels
3 masked gobies
1 neon goby

such and interesting thought.
I feel there are two aspects of this.
1. bio load -what your tank and handle
2. space in the tank for fish to live a happy healthy life.

sometimes a tank may have the bio load cap. but not the space or vise versa. so like in all things in life there a balancing act.

I am setting up two tanks right now a seahorse in space can have more fish but in bio cap. be 4-6 Seahorse. there messy

now for my 200/275 gal FOWLR it will have a lot more movement but hopefully not be overstocked.
here is my stocking list for the FOWLR:

large angel
Regal angelfish- captive bread
Majestic Angelfish

Dwarf angels:
Flame
Coral Beauty
Bicolor
lemon peel
ebili

(all introduced at the same time )

1-2 smaller wrasses

Large tang:
Blue/regal Tang OR power blue

smaller tang
1 zerbasoma yellow, Kole or purple

Butterflies:
Copperband
Yellow Longnose
Pearlscale
Latticed
Sunset
Raccoon

I might skip the both tangs and add 4-5 smaller wrasses, we will see. :)

I thought I did… then I saw some of these lists!
In my 4’x2’x18” tank i have approximately 13-14 fish;
1x Coral Beauty Angel
1x Majestic Angel
1x Regal Angel
1x Gold Nugget Wrasse
1x Jade/Green ‘Coris’ Wrasse
1x Radiant Wrasse
1x Cebu Lubbock’s Fairy Wrasse
1x Indo Lubbock’s Fairy Wrasse
1x Naoko’s Fairy Wrasse
1x Black Photon Clown
1x Magnificent Foxface
1x Copperband Butterfly
1x Twinspot Tang
1x Yellow Watchman Goby

And I may be forgetting something but generally, that’s it for fish (Yes, some of my Fairies are coming towards the end of their expected lifespan but id expect Atleast another year from them).

In my nano (3’x16”x1’);
1x Blue Star Leopard Wrasse
2x Pink Streaked Wrasse
1x Black Clown Goby
1x Yasha Goby
1x Griessinger’s Goby
1x Mandarin Dragonet

And I may be missing someone.
But I do want to add fish to this tank so here’s some I’d love to add;
1-2x Yellow Clown Goby (Or a different species of clown goby to)
1x Vivienne’s or Choat’s Leopard Wrasse
Do I qualify now? In my 4’ tank;

In my experience, “overstocking” really is dependent on the types of fish you’re keeping. Oftentimes the waste output is hardly an issue, but the question of stocking can be more dependent on how territorial your fish are with each other. Small or peaceful fish can be kept in larger quantities than large or aggressive fish, and even then, there is a whole array of factors to consider when it comes to tankmates and numbers of fish.
