Panic Time! Need Some help! Acropora Spreading Death.

Have to be especially careful with the ones selling a lot of cut up maricultured colonies. If I buy a frag like this, I cut it off the plug WAY above the base (I’m throwing away like half the frag sometimes) and dip it in KCL. I haven’t purchased frags like this in awhile, and may stop entirely.

Exactly as well as store fronts that offer maintenance and are more than happy to take breakdowns. It's really like running around throwing your Jimmy in anything that moves. Sooner or later somethings gonna start to itch.

Yep. Sometimes you got to watch out for the ones that you think are clean. It only takes once

Big vendor doesn’t matter. I’ve bought from big vendors and got zoanthid eating nudibranches twice. Took pic of the neon ******* eating my zoa plug in the shipping bag and sent pics back to the vendor to let them know their tanks probably infested. They assured me they dip all frags and colonies on arrival and I was like well I didn’t open my shipping bag, put in a nudi, reseal it, and send a pic…they honestly weren’t aware and were in disbelief. Then they checked their zoa systems and found more. Thanked me, refunded me for the coral, gave me 50$ credit for new order, and told me they would do full tank treatment for any tanks that contain zoa. Told me I probably saved them thousands

It’s getting really bad. I am talking with someone who has grey bugs likely. His tank was doing great got frags from said vendor didn’t think about bugs cause they are acting like their stuff is clean. The vendors are getting lazy and taking advantage. I had an order come in with aefw as I said before and for me that just pure lazy dirty behavior from someone charging premium prices. Never again will I stick a frag into my tank with out qt dip and milb for 4-6 weeks.

These are so easy to see and eliminate - pure carelessness

I don't know man? It's been widely documented that these f ers have survived 3 month qts with semiweekly dips. I'm of the opinion that it's a crap shoot no matter which road one decides to travel. I choose to buy from a select few who have a H E L L of a lot more to loose than me and that seems to work well. " for now " I know I'd be hot if I got em but I'd be on fire if I babysat and quarantined for 3 months without avail.

He buys from a select few that he trusts.
Some of these big vendors have coral QT so people can(or think they can) trust them because they also have a lot to lose(there business).

Like Jason Fox, nothing gets in until full QT.

Semi weekly wouldn't be the route to take IMO. I got them about a year ago...caught them early. Sacrificed my encrusting acros and put them on plugs and racks. Killed all the encrusting with sodium hydroxide solution. Dipped every 5-7 days for 13 weeks. Didn't see a worm after 2 weeks but didn't want to take any chances. It was an annoying road to walk down but one I was willing to do. Eggs snuck in and that was that. Even then, everything was dipped and inspected/scoped/mag glass but I wasn't looking for things as closely as it turned out I needed to. The best way is qt obviously. Now I have an led screen scope (game changer) and inspect every inch of what goes in the tank.

What screen scope do you use? Curious how magnified those things can get

I got a tomlov one off of amazon...it has different lenses and ypu can go to to 1500x mag. Never really need to mag that much though as the middle lense does fine.

Here's my thing about quarantine and trust. Do you know that guy they call polo reef? I'm gonna guess he's got a 100k in quarantine alone, and now has a swimming pool in his basement full of MEN and AEF. Do I think taking the time to quarantine could help? Absolutely,. Is it full proof? Not by a long shot. There's just way to many cases of people getting them even after extended quarantines.
As for the trust thing, I do trust my guys and if something happened I would feel a lot worse for them then I would for myself. I built this thing in a year and can replace it even quicker if I had to where they have decades poured into the game and livelihood could be at stake. Problem these days is people just aren't being honest. I've met Jason several times and by no means is this an assault on his character but since his name came up we'll use him. Do you think if JF woke up one morning to AEF he would make a psa on here and his website? Not a chance.

It's always the risk we take and nothing is fool proof for sure. FWIW if I had two systems I would dip and inspect something from one system before I put it in my other one..lol. nobody in this hobby is infoulable.

It supposedly works...the problem (I think) is the length of time it is residual in the rock and what not. But think it only matters for snails/inverts really. It's been a while since I've read up on it
I didn’t think it lingered and killed snails and inverts long term. But I’ve read for a year you can’t have certain leathers and soft corals for up to a year.

Maybe that's all it is. I know it was stumbled upon while trying to kill those blue cloves so that makes sense

This does make me wonder how many cases there have been of the newer aefw misidentified as black bugs...hence the interceptor won't kill them even at really high doses.
