Paper Towels!!!

So... are you going to use your wifes expensive towels to protect the new carpet, Or did you learn your lesson with the glue?:p
When speed is of the essence I will use closest available to help avert disaster. Truth be told i buy here a $300.00 worth of towels a year. LOL:cool:

I went to the dollar store and bought tons of coral colored (pink orange) towels... their such an odd color the huge size we're about 50 cents lol.. now there's no confusion the coral colored ones are designated for coral

My wife is very particular over her bath and kitchen towels. I have designated bath and kitchen towels and best not confuse them. Just over the weekend i got PVC glue on a quality bath towel. I got the riot act for that one. LOL!
Been there done that.... still alive to tell the story

I use white cotton terry cloth towels (like side towels used in professional kitchens) at home. I buy them by the 60 pack from sams club. I use them for most everything I used to use paper towels for. I still use some paper towels but they are used nearly exclusively for things like cleaning the protein skimmer neck, or some other gross household task that I don’t want to ruin a white cotton towel with. It’s worked very well for me, a big package of paper towels lasts me a couple years now. Instead of a couple months. (It was nice to not have to worry about paper towels during the shortage from everyone panic buying paper products).

This guy destroyed some of my bath towels so now they look like Swiss cheese. I use them for the tank now.

I use Micro Fiber towels I got at HarborFreight Chhep and washable. I also have SHAMWOWS close as the suck up more water than anything else and are lint free. To clean the glass I use a spray bottle filled with RODI water spray on glass then use a squeegee.
SHAMWOWS are my best friend around a tank.

Every week my wife has to say, "Where is the kitchen towel at?!? I just put it there this morning!" I use paper towels sparingly. I should probably just get a cheap pack of towels like they use for motels...

I hardly use any paper towels anymore. I have a pile of old washcloths and towels that I use to mop up water, etc from the aquarium. The only time i use paper towels is to clean up something disgusting, like dog poop.

Every few years I go to a warehouse store and buy a pack of cotton bar towels. They are not the same as any other towel around the house. A trip to the washer and they are clean, if sometimes stained from GFO or my water test chemicals. I also have one of those absorbent mats I put in front of the aquarium when changing water. Domestic tranquillity is much improved.

I use paper towels for drying my hands before diving in the tank, no chance of soap from a cloth towel. Use cloth to dry hands once arm out of tank or to work on frag or equipment

  • "Dog" towels (old bath towels) for the floor; large cleanups
  • Bar rags for wet hands/arms; small cleanups
  • Microfiber towels for cleaning glass
Paper towels will lint when cleaning glass. Ask the car detailers, you won't find any of them using paper towels for glass cleaning or detail work. Same goes for cleaning mirrors and windows at home. Also, distilled water is all you need to clean the glass. I'm sure RODI is fine too.

I just picked up some of these bar rags for extra fish towels—

And these are good, quality microfibers that you can use for glass cleaning—

Just buy enough to last you a week then wash, rinse, repeat. The wife'll be happy— no more using her bath towels and it'll reduce your paper towel use to zero.

for cleaning the glass i use rodi water and a squeegee with an old cotton diaper. the wife turned me on to the glass trick, never streaks. the cotton diaper u can pick up anywhere, they're cheap and last forever. also the cloth tends to hold onto the salt creep when i wipe it off. set the filter socks on them when i change them. i couldn't imagine how many cases of paper towels I would have used over the years.

just.... stop using paper towels. I've never actually used them on any of my fish tanks. Cloth rags work great, and if you get them very slightly moist will give you a great streak free clean to your glass without any cleaners.

Paper towels? We use it all the time. I even designed and built paper towel holder, to operate it with one hand. Our clients pay attantion for aquarium glass cleanliness so paper towels are real life savers for all that salty drops.
