Paul's 40 Gallon Reef

Well I lost all of that Acro but one section of it. Looks to be doing OK. I did pick up a fresh clipping of an Acro that I have been watching slowly color up for several months now. I think it will turn into a beauty. Not sure at all on the ID of this one. Here are some photos of it, just dipped and added to the tank.

My male Ruby Red Dragonet has been missing for several weeks now so I came to the conclusion he is gone. He has made it to the sump several times but I have not found him. Maybe he jumped and one of the dogs got it? I think he had a death wish. Just yesterday my buddy got 2 in and saved me a male. I brought in my frags and traded in for him and also picked up a nice dark green Acro frag. This one is larger than any of the others I have had and has better color than the last male. Here are some photos during acclimation and after being added to the tank yesterday.

Thanks Steve. Hopefully this one isn't trouble like the last male. I would like nothing more than to see them pair up!

So far so good with the new dragonet. Fed them last night and seen him eat some prawn roe. I think he might have even at some of the Marine Cuisine, hard to two though. I tried to get a photo of him with his dorsal fun raised but it went down as soon as I pointed the camera at him. LOL. He's got a nice big and colorful dorsal.

Managed to get some good shots the other day. :)
The Orchid Dottyback is so hard to get a good picture of, I'm proud of the first one!

Got a couple new zoas the other day. What I think to be Laser Lemons, and a polyp of Sunny D. Pruned back some of the red Dragon Eyes as well to allow for some room for the Laser Lemons. Here are some photos of them and some others I took within. the last few days. In other news the new male dragonet was found dead in the skimmer sections of my sump. Not sure why these guys have a death with. I even gutter guarded the overflow box and he still got through. I am also debating on getting rid of my Ocellaris clowns that I have had forever because they are finally starting to damage the Trachy in which they have always hosted. I value the Trachy more than the fish, but not sure what I want to do here yet.

Sorry to hear about the new ruby male gets frustrating when they have a death wish. The clowns is another sad one when you've had them long time. But trachy is beautiful and wouldn't want it hurt to point it's lost. Just wish we could get fish n nems ect to do and stay where we wanted.

I'm looking for frag of sunny d myself it's one of my favorites. How's the wild yellow acro doing is the last piece holding in there yet?

Yes, the tiny little piece I have left seems to be doing pretty decent.

What about a nem for the clowns? Think they would make the switch?
I have a small RBTA, but they never once checked it out. Its much too small for them. I'm thinking of trading it in along with my euphyllias and getting a big RBTA to put in place of where the euphyllias are.

Here are my 2 new zoa frags.

Ah ok I had that happen too. I put em in an acclamation box with the nem and they still didn't take. Can't force love I suppose

Been so busy haven't had time to update! My wife would not let me get rid of the clowns, they are the ONLY thing in my tank she likes and I have had them for a long time. I ended up getting rid of the green Trachy as well as my big beloved euphyllias. It was a tough decision to make. I was not able to get ahold of a good size BTA so started looking around for other possible candidates. I came to the conclusion to try my hands at a sabae. I have read many mixed reviews on care and placement, etc. I figured even though most at delicate and finicky that I would give it a shot watching it closely which I have been doing. I got a blue tip (kinda whitish, probably bleached) one from Petco out of 3 that they had. I have enough instore credit from my buddy to get a nice size RBTA if the sebae does not work out for me. I have since been trying to get the sebae to stay put, which it did until the lights went out. I placed in in the area I dedicated for it where my frogspawn and hammer where. Roughly a 11"x11" spot of open sand. I did cage the anemone with a DIY gutter guard cage incase it decided to let go in the current and float all over the place. Well, it did let go and was stuck to the side of the cage all day yesterday. I assume it is too much flow and have tinkered around with it all day today. I placed some rocks around it and buried the foot in the sand by the base of the largest one and adjusted the powerhead which was to blame. So far so good. I also cut all the pumps off today and fed only the nem to try to get my clowns to notice it and of course they picked the food out of it which was kinda my plan to get them to touch it. I'm not sure if my plan has succeeded, but its looking better than before. They have since been hanging out around it (which was has not been the case at all) but I have not noticed them in it yet. Here are some photos of the tank as of right now and some shots of the new sebae anemone.

Here it is in the cage I made when I first introduced it into the tank. (LQ cell photo)

And Here is a current FTS. (It's definitely different with the big euphyllias gone!)

Long story short, I decided to get rid of the sense. It just wouldn't cooperate with me and wasn't the smartest choice anyways. I did slightly rescape the tank the other day and fed my LPS side a little with a really nice and bright blasto that I've had my eyes on for a good while now. Here are some photos of out from last night after I mounted it.
