Ph is 8.5!

The only thing I can think of would be a water change... but let's see what everyone else says...

Firstly don't panic, what are you testing the ph level with? If it's a test kit have you re-tested, If it's an electronic device is it calibrated?
Gary

+1 on what are you testing with?
How long are your lights on?
How long does it stay at 8.5?
What else are you dosing to the tank?

Why would u want to lower that ph? That's fa great number.
Couple things tho how are u measuring ph? And if it's with an apex is it calibrated correctly?
I have only seen ph that high with co2 scrubbing and dosing kalk. Normal ph is like 8.4 for me which is really high compared to most people so I would just double check to make sure.

And the only bad thing about ph that high is coral growth

Wow, that escalated quickly. Thanks everyone. Let's see.

Seneye-8.5
API- 8.5

Last water change was Friday-16%

Lights-8 hours

Room- a/c to 74-76

Tank- 78f

KH-7-8

Calc- 460

Usually I manually dose RS ABC but haven't in like 4 days.

I thought that high ph hurt the fishies.
Nope
what size tank? U have a refugium? What is in the tank? Do you have a lot of water flow?

I can't speak for seyney but API is trash. Ph goes up and down as well even if ur test are 100% correct ur tank is not always going to be at 8.5 it's a wave like this

I don't believe API is trash but I understand that a lot of people dislike it and respect that opinion. I've just always found that it is comparable to many other liquid and electronic testers.

89g total water volume.

No fuge, just a sump.

Flow is good but surface agitation is minute.

There are 7 fish, largest is a juvenile kole tang at 4". Mixed reef coral.

Personally wouldn't chase the ph. Is your tank doing well at that number? Mine stays around 8.3-8.6 and corals are thriving, fish don't mind at all. Just my opinion as others may disagree

To be honest I really can't see a problem with a ph at 8.5 if it's stable at that, my setup runs 8.4 - 8.2 according to the seneye graph and I'm more than happy with it.
Gary

P.s. the API ph test is perfectly acceptable and from my experience gives reasonable results.
