I have my reservations. Can you recommend d the most accurate (budgeted) test to compare results with my two methods?

A pH meter is the best bet.

I'm sure this is already known by most folks on here but I'll mention it anyway...
pH measurement is logarithmic, meaning the curve increases exponentially. 8.0 is a lot more than 7.0
We're so used to measuring pH that sometimes we just don't think about this. Just saying this because there's never any harm in being careful. Conversely, there's usually a lot of harm and regret when being aloof or apathetic.

Forget test kits. You will be happy with this tool.
(IMHO a digital pH meter and refractometer are absolutely essential if you own a reef tank)

That's what I use, purchased a calibration solution from amazon as well to periodically check the accuracy and it's rarely off the calibration solution PH.

Close up your fish room. Oh means it’s well oxygenated. Close a window or close the door to the fish room. But I’m with everyone else. Don’t chase the PH. I have an issue raising my ph. It’s winter here and I can’t leave my windows open and my ph is at 7.7-7.8

No 8.3-8.5 would be awesome. No more that 8.5. No real data available at that range.

What's the benefit? Isn't natural sea water 8-8.3? Doesn't high ph stress fish, and stunt coral growth? Everyone insists that its fine and I'm not stubborn enough to think everyone is wrong but at the same time, no one is saying why it is good.

Once I started dosing kalk fir top of water and removed the ATO my corals started growing so much faster. I see visual growth every day.
