Hello my hippo tang has what looks like cuts/holes over his body. Looks like small scoops taken out of the color where they are I noticed him a couple weeks ago rubbing on the rocks. Haven't seen it since but here are some pictures attached. From what I've researched looks like tang disease? Thank you for your help in advance. Also pictures don't do it justice hard for this guy to stay still

I can't tell much of anything from the pictures unfortunately. By "Tang disease" do you mean HLLE? Hippos are notorious for getting it.

I will try to get another picture or find one on google that matches

It's impossible to get a good picture but if you click on the one that I posted the tiny white specs are the affected areas thank you

I see those I think, can you find a good photo representation?? What I can see looks like large flukes but it could be white spots on the glass.

"Tang disease" to me spells out ich or velvet. What other symptoms does the fish display?

Heavy breathing? Swimming in to powerheads? Hiding from light or being more cryptic?

Fish is completely normal eating great swimming great no complaints here

This picture not great in pretty comparable. I don't believe it is ich, all the pictures I see of ich the spots are prominent off the body this is more like scrapes. His/her home is squeezed between to rocks which he/she is most likely out growing. Is it possible it could just be scrapes. I nursed this thing from starvation a year ago and am a little emotionally attached, considering they don't have a very successful survival rate. But I more concerned about the rest of the tank of this is disease and if it will spread. I know I should have a qt tank but budget and space doesn't make that possible.

You said he was rubbing on the rocks. Was this just a few times or more of a continuous thing?

That kind of damage is pretty severe in the last photo --- looks like bad flukes or even velvet...

My guess is it's probably HLLE. Not the end of the world but you won't have a show tang. I have a purple that had it real bad when I rescued it. It's healed a lot over the last year but the scars are healing. I know many say the scars don't go away but they seem to be getting there on my purple.

If it's HLLE it will usually occur on it's lateral line predominately. If its on it's belly then it might be something else. Good luck!

Is there a treatment I do for this or let it take its course?

If it's HLLE, I don't think there is much you can do but remember HLLE = Head and Lateral Line Erosion. If this is occurring elsewhere on the body, you're probably going to need to treat it in a QT.

Thank you for the advice

You could try vitamin-soaking his food and offering a more varied diet. HLLE is often diet related. If it's a slight bacterial infection the vitamin will also help boost its immune system. You can try giving him a fw dip to rule out flukes.

If the marks get worse/red or start to spread he might need antibiotics. Preferably as a bath in a QT, but if that's not possible you can bind it to food and try to get it into his bloodstream that way.

If it's ich, or more likely velvet, you'll need to get everyone into QT for treatment and a 76 day fallow period. And you'd want to move fast. You would expect to see other symptoms like scratching, breathing heavy, swimming into flow, yawning, loss of appetite, etc with these.

I'd research a little more or try to get a clearer picture so we can help narrow it down for you. This is a good place to look to see if something matches:
