Please help with my hippo

This is what I would do.... A freshwater dip to check for flukes. His scratching on the rocks is a red flag for me. These holes or scratches could be a bacterial infection that would be secondary to a parasite like flukes or ich.

Depending on the results of the dip, the treatment instructions will be a bit different.

How exactly would you perform the dip and what should I be looking for after. Thank you too btw

Besides the written instructions that humble posted... if you watch the video then I will show you exactly what to do and what to look for. It's all on there.

I know it's been a while so I finally did a fresh water dip. I saw her scratching again so I said it was time. I did not see flukes coming off her like in the video posted. With that said I'm guessing it's semi good and prob hlle? Put two more pictures but I don't think they are better

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the scratching wouldn't be caused by HLLE. I think there is more likely a parasite here. Or maybe something bacterial.

Is it possible to get a QT set up?

Pictures are best taken while the fish is in the water. Things look way different out of the water and your hands can cause the fish injury while holding it. Just an fyi :) It probably does have HLLE but I agree that there is most likely a parasite issue going on here - ich being in the forefront of possibilities since flukes were negative.

Well that sucks. The only reason I'm not convinced it was ich or flukes was because I couldn't see anything hanging off of the fish, or above the fishes skin. Doesn't ich look like the fish have white 3D spots on it? I could very well be wrong. But unfortunately a qt tank is not possible. I did get selcon and used it a few times soaked the shrimp I fed in it and did soaked nori in it. But I feel as if either the food is not absorbing it. Even with the nori I just get a cloud in the tank when I put it in. Does anyone know how long until they've seen improvement with hlle using selcon?

It takes time for it to work. Excellent water quality, low stress and high quality foods with vitamins added in. Then patience

Yes I do run carbon. Is removing this because tangs are effected by carbon a certain way or because it strips the vitamins out of the water? Also run gfo
The study found that microscopic carbon particles embedded themselves in the lateral lines of tangs. Removing carbon media from the tank reversed the damage done by HLLE.

Agree on selcon and carbon as well. A +3 or +4 of sorts.

I want to thank everyone who helped me out whether it were the fresh water dip, selcon, and or removing the carbon. I can officially say comfortably that my hippo is healing. I'll post a picture but my before pictures were completely terrible that you prob won't see a difference. With every healing do you think I can run carbon again or never again?
