I really want a fox face in my tank but get worried about them nipping at corals. I see many people with success with them. Is there anyone in here that has had a negative experience with them?

Not me...I really like this fish - especially as they get older - they get quite friendly.
I've had moments when I thought they were nipping at frags - but everythime I looked closely there was some algae they were after.

The only negative is they can be a little skittish, that combined with venomous dorsal spines can lead to serious pain when doing tank maintenance.

Mine is very skittish, even when I just approach the tank he'll go into hiding for about 5 minutes. He might have eaten some zoas, but I'm not sure of that. (Two varieties disappeared after his introduction. Could be coincidence as I never saw him eating them.). He's an algae eating machine and even ate bryopsis in the display.

I had a small One Spot for almost a year that was a model citizen. I purchased a Golden Angel who somehow taught the Foxface to eat LPS so I had to get rid of both.

The first inhabitants in my tank was a pair One Spots. They have become less skittish as they've matured, and are an excellent algae control team. In my case, they are perfect citizens, with one exception...they love Red Finger Gorgonian's. Could care less for the Purple Whip's. Tried the Red Finger's twice and let's just say polyp extension = snack time!!!

They are a very easy fish and to kill one you almost have to step on it. Don't even get brushed with those spines, extreamly painful. You want to cut your hand off. No, really

I've had several foxfaces. In the beginning, they are very shy. Give them time, once established in the tank, they will do very well. I have never seen one pick at coral, not saying that it doesn't happen. I currently have a magnificent foxface that lays in a 12inch diameter toadstool coral. She reminds me of a clownfish in an anemone. She is in a 180 gallon reef tank and doesn't bother any corals.

I got mine to eat bubble algae. Had it for four years and came home from work one day and it was dead. My bubble algae came back and I got another one the bubble algae is now under control. I feed nori every day and Larrys Reef Frenze a couple of times a week and have no problem with nipping at corals

My magnificent foxface was very shy for the first few months. Now he's extremely outgoing and out all the time. Never had any foxface eat coral.

Got one two days ago

I love my magnificent foxface. Like 3FordFamily said it was shy the first few month but now he alway out in the open and anytime he and well all my fish see me approach the tank the all crowd up in front and at the top. I guess they think I'm going to feed them. Lol

My foxface was a model citizen for over a year and then went nuts! I've spent the last week trying to catch him without removing my aquascape. One day last week he acquired a taste for my acans then he decided my hammer was a nice treat. I didn't realize it was him until it was too late to save them. He has probably destroyed $300 in corals. I almost had him in my trap, but that quick little sucker escaped.

I really love this fish, but he has to go.

I had a yellow tang and a foxface that I named Shaggy & Scooby because they were scared of everything. The yellow tang kicked the bucket bit the foxface is still alive and hiding. Never had a problem with it touching coral, and the combo of him and a kole tang keep my algae in check.

So this happened tonight

Began a week ago when I found a smaller fox face at a newer LFS in my area, beautiful little guy and my girlfriend was all about it too. He was In the frag tank and the employee said he's fully quarantined and had been with them quite a while. I told him I wanted the fish and he said it would be tough to capture but if I came back in a few days they would have him in a holding tank ready to go, I agreed.

This evening one week later I'm back in the store after confirming earlier that I was still interested. I proceeded to buy him and a beautiful feather duster and little frag, in a bit of a rush to a follow up doc appt. Foxface held down the car at 78-82 degrees with a window cracked at sun set for literally an hour 15 including ride home.

Proceeded to acclimate the new additions (foxface and duster together) with their water having close parameters to mine (salinity off refract). While a few ounces into acclimating Foxface showed agitation & distress while colors changed. I slowed acclimation, some time later and a few more ounces in was appearing more calm.

I went to the rest room came back and he was dead.

I have never lost anything while acclimating and have my tank up and running successfully for months with very minimal losses. 55g reef with live rock, skimmer, solid filter, mp10s and radion for lighting.

Still have not done anything with feather duster and I don't know what to do. Any thoughts?

How long was acclimation? If parameters are close anything more than 20min can be dangerous due to ammonia toxicity.
