Please tell me your fox face experience?

I had my Siganus vulpinus (no spot on it) for over 5 years. He was pretty large when I got him, but not fully grown. He did wonders on keeping algae in check and I loved him. However, after 3 years or more he suddenly decided that my symphillia and trachys were really tasty. He managed to never let me keep acans. Eventually my tank became gorgs anyway and he was fine. Never bothered the clams I had either. He passed not too long ago and I miss him. The bubble algae is now back too. I am working on getting a magnificent next.

We had one in a lagoon type tank and my wife and I could pet ours. It would greet us and was a favorite of visitors.

Acclimation usually is around that long for me but I gave it more time since its breathing was labored

Do they change colors? Yes.
That is a really cool part of them. They can turn many different shades with many patterns. Really cool cuz they do their camo at night to sleep.

Just bought a One Spot Foxface a couple of days ago. I made sure he would be a good fit and researched them, but had no idea about the color changing. He looked in really bad shape when I put him in the QT and pretty much laid on the bottom breathing really heavily. I wasn't sure if he would make it through the night, but the next day when it was time to feed he popped up and started munching down and has been swimming freely ever since! Pretty funny little guy, glad I got him.

I'm getting a 90 gallon tank from my husband's co worker and supposedly he has a fox face. I was considering selling it to my lfs

I have had a one spot foxface in my tanks for well over 10 years years, they are great fish, they get along with all types of fish, easy to keep with good personality. They are skittish but as long as you are paying attention to where they are you should not have an issue with their fins (I never have).

Good experience with me. Never saw him touch any corals. Always out swimming. When I first got the fish, I already had a lot of established fish, tangs included. The alpha yellow tang at the time, tried to punk him. The foxface would just flare it's spines. After a couple of days, they left him alone

Love my magnificent! As others have stated they are skittish sometimes though. Mine will sometimes dart around when I am doing something to the tank.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I love my magnificent Foxface. It's always a sad ocorance when a member of the family passes away. :(

I considere my Foxface a rescue from a LFS as he was not looking too good in their tank ... made an offer and they accepted it. The Foxface has paid me back by growing ... and GROWING as well as becoming a model tank mate!

Every once in a while he squares off and flares his dorsal at my Yellow tang ... but there has never been any attacks of mishaps in the five years I've had him!

Great fish!

Got one from a fellow hobbiest during his tank breakdown. Very good grazer! Eats a LOT though. Nearly as much as my yellow and Tomani tang combined. Model citizen! Just make sure you have a 90 gallon or more. They do get to a good size when grown.

I have a magnificent foxface in a 50 cube. And yes he is nipping on my blue maxima clam, and eating my blue ice zoes. So far thats all and I have a fully stocked coral tank with scoly's, acros, acons, etc. Still love the fish but might have to give him up. He does keep algae in check along with my diamond bleny.

I've had a one spot for 2 yrs and he is a FAT model citizen.....lol
He was very skittish for months but now he eats Nori out of my hand.

How fast do these fish grow? Say you get a 2-3 inch fish, how big can you expect one grow in a year? By 2 years? Thinking about one for my 93 gallon.

Give 2 years to get to 5 or 6 inches. Mine was great until it was full grown and decided to eat more than algae and food. Ate my acans, trachys, picked zoas, and others. Had to go to a new home without corals. 93 will be too small in time.

Thanks. It's sort of what I was thinking but figured i'd ask the question anyways. They really are great fish from everything I've read, it's just too bad my new tank is a little too small for them.

I've had every kind of foxface over the years my favorite fish, and have and still do hand feed everyone I've ever had never been stung by one either. I have never seen any of the 6 I've had remotely show interest in nipping at a coral.
