God knows I've tried. I've fed these fish to near death. Bottom line? There's always room for coral.

Hopefully if I get one it will work out. I'm curious if smaller ones as opposed to larger angels may be easier to train to eat prepared foods.

Oh training them to eat prepared food is not necessary. They'll eat ANYTHING right outta the box... Anything that'll fit in their mouth. Eating isn't the issue. I often wonder if the nipping at coral is done out of boredom... seriously.

Lol without a doubt it's a possibility. Maybe a school of chromis to keep them distracted would work :P. I do remember my flame angel having quite the personality, and without a doubt it was a VERY active fish.

Every Centropyge angel I've ever had for any length of time ended up nipping, some took a few years but it eventually happened. I suspect that a decent chunck of the people that report no problems don't keep their fish alive very long.
Kind of a derogatory comment or maybe you are the master fish keeper?:nono:

Yeah they are seriously smart fish!! The way my CB has evaded capture has been amazing!! I left a net in the water for days so he'd be used to it. I can stand at the tank, having approached slowly, he sees me reaching for the net and BAM he's gone. I believe boredom is the answer.

Possibly he meant it as in they bought them at an old age :P lol. But nonetheless it is a possibility. If many people buy half dollar size ones that die within a year they may not have time to be bored enough to nip at coral lol

Lol that's awful. That makes me even more nervous to add one, I hadn't thought about the torture of trying to get one out. I'm picturing my Sps breaking left and right haha

I destroyed my aquascaping trying to get him out... twas then I developed my passionate hatred from the CB. Sucks having a fish that outsmarts you at every turn!!!

Potters nipped at SPS nonstop. Owned 2 flames over the years and both bothered acans and brains to the point of near death. Owned 2 coral beauties and both never touched any corals. Guess you never really know.

I have a Flame in my 180g. In the past never bothered anything, SPS mainly and a clam. However, I noticed it picking at one of my many millies now this perticular piece I have been having an RTN issue with (whole nother topic) and that was the only piece the angel messed with. I took out that piece yesterday and the flame hasnt touched anything else but bugs and algae on the rocks.

Not at all, I've killed more than my fair share of fish. However, I've seen many similar threads to this over the years in the hobby and on forums. So many of the people that report no problems haven't been in the hobby long, that they have "had" several angels, or are just reporting that they've had their angel for x number of months and that they haven't had any issues. Also, it's just a sad reality of that hobby that many hobbysists kills a lot of fish and corals.

After thinking about it I would have to agree. On the other hand, I've seen some spectacular reefs with angels in them. Personally, I've only "killed" one fish in the past five years; a CBB that never made it out of quarantine. Also, think people should make conscious decisions on which fish they buy because it's no different than say a dog; they'll be in your care for 10 - 15 years.

We've had several angels without issues.

- Goldflake
- Potters
- Flame
- Regal

Including butterflies too.

It really depends on how you train them to eat prepared foods.
Getting them as Juvi's works best, while the adult stage they've already decided their diet.
Occasional nip, but rarely provided they're constantly fed 3-5 times a day.

All the ones I've had have picked at one time, but not to the point of killing. I guess you just have to like the fish more than what he's picking at

My flameback ate any food I gave him (LRS, mysis, NLS pellets, nori, blood worms, etc.) He also ate one of my acans and was working on two others before I caught him and gave him to a friend.

I kept a flame angel for a short period of time and it didn't nip. I've had a coral beauty for about a year now and bought it very small. It does not nip at corals but I don't have sps - I have mainly softies and a couple of lps. I also feed well.

I would definitely advise against a lemonpeel because I don't believe they are rated as reef safe? I know it's always a risk with the "reef safe with caution" fish - and as the posts reveal, it can come down to the individual.
