Possible problem. Need answers soon

I haven’t checked my parameters recently as I’ve been super busy. I can’t check them tonight but I don’t want to take it out because it may release all of its ammonia when I lift it. Right now it’s on the sand and the shell is facing up so no cuc can access it
If you’re too busy to take 5 minutes to test your ammonia maybe you’re too busy to have a tank? Not to sound harsh but cmon. You took the time to post and add pics.
Id just scoop it up and see if it’s dead or not. If it’s dead it’ll continue to dump ammonia into the tank.

Yep inaction is the Tank killer. I think we are all guilty of it until we feel the pain and regret later. Then we learn to act quickly even if it means staying up until 5am.

Well to be honest it’s mostly that I’m in high school so my parents don’t appreciate when I’m working on my reef tank at

to be honest I’m in high school so my parents don’t really appreciate it when I’m working on my fish on a night before school. I’ll try to test the ammonia really quick though.

Like I said to tj it’s really about high school and studying for tests and stuff like that. Besides that I spend a lot of time on my tank

ok, it may take awhile to get rid of that much but they will. If you cheato or other macro algae vibrant may kill that also.
I don’t have macro algae. Good news! I tested ammonia and it’s 0! At least according to fresh water api kit...

API is not a really good test for Ammonia, get Salifert or Sera for Saltwater to check it.
I'm not even sure the freshwater API will work for SW anyway.

Well I guess I will test tomorrow with my saltwater kit tomorrow morning. The 0 from the freshwater kit went up to about 0.25 ammonia after waiting like 7 minutes. All of my corals are doing amazing so if ammonia shows up tomorrow ill dose some prime until I can get them down

API is perfectly fine for testing.

You don't gotta have the expensive test kits unless you need accuracy to the .001 and have OCD or just too much money to spend.

You do need to calibrate the 5mL of water in the API test tube as the line isn't always accurate. Freshwater vs saltwater on the ammonia test makes no difference.

For anyone still watching this thread, one more question. If my ammonia had actually spiked(0.25-0.50) why are my sps corals totally fine?

API test are known to show .25 even when there is none, there are multiple posts here on R2R about this. Search for them & then make a decision on what test kits you want to use.
