Power has been off since midnight. I have 3 tanks at the moment. 240gal fish and inverts, 55gal just put in hypo with fish and a 25gal hexagon with my livestock and inverts. Do not have a generator!! Been circulating water with gallon jugs and my dog just hooked up a cord to the car, but only can run one thing at a time. Doing overflow on 2 small tanks for about 15 minutes at a time and the big icecaps on the 240g pointed at the surface. Noticing the temp is down to 75.4. Will fish be ok for the day at this temp? In Louisiana so temp will rise some as the day progresses. Any other ideas?

Thanks, having to alternate the tanks. What is the best time to run each tank before switching? Running 15mintes right now. Not sure if that is long enough for the 240gal

Depends what's in the tank breathing more so than water volume. You'll want to favor whichever tank is most heavily stocked.
Do you have any neighbours, family or friends who might have car or marine battery booster packs? They often include an inverter with a standard 120v plug that could run a power head for a few hours.

Any chance you have a bait and tackle shop close by? They all have battery powered pumps for bait buckets. I'm guessing your too far from a pet store (they have them too).

As others have said, keeping surface agitator on is the big key.
It might be a good idea to get a battery powered pump for use with an airstone for these situations. Temperature isn't as important.
I went without power for three days in an icy Canadian winter, no losses. I wrapped the tank in a towel, and manually aerated the water every hour or so. I didn't have it heavily stocked though.

Sadly no to all above. Husband is having to leave now to go to work with his Dad today. Going to see if he has a generator incase it's still out this evening. Just going to have to keep rotating the power and then doing some manual stirring if need be. Low stock in all tanks thank goodness. 4 small fish with handful of invertebrates in 240g, 3 small fish and one 5inch foxface in the 55g and only a handful of invertes in the 25g with Cheato.

Water movement is all that really matters during power outages. Invest in a battery back up system for your pumps and you'll solve this problem in the future. With severe weather events becoming the norm, it's more important than ever to have a back up in place.
I use both the ice cap battery back up for my gyres and ecotech back ups for my vortechs. The nice thing about the icecaps is they can be used on a variety of different pumps and include different sized cords for this purpose.

First off, what kind of dog do you have that can hook up power cords, mine just barks, eats and sleeps :p

I got one of these just in case, https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyber-...-back-up-system-black/3938817.p?skuId=3938817 and it will run my Nero 5 power head for about 12-14 hours based on my testing.

All good advice above.

Do you know when you will get power restored?

O2 depletion is worst at night, ideally you’d want to have some kind of solution by the evening.

I bought a battery powered pump at my LFS. It's super simple and I hook it up to a bubble bar. Check Walmart, Petco, lfs, petsmart.

Ok, so, finally got ahold of the electric co and they haven't even been working on our area yet, just said there is a large number of outages and could be a several day event. My sister lives about 1hr away and is going to loan us a generator but will be this evening. Freezers are already thawing. Ugh.

You will be fine temp wise. I had a heater fail this winter and my tank was 68 for a day and all the fish survived.

Buy a generator. Cheap insurance if you stay in this hobby and want to protect you investment. Small ones that are sufficient to run tank equipment are not that expensive.

Going to try and buy one again. Sadly have had 2 generators stolen over the last 10years here. Sucks people can be like that. Latest update is saying electricity should be on by 4pm. Yay, if it's true.

Buy a inverter, hook it to your car. Run it.run circ pumps

Have one in my car. Only can handle one plug at a time so alternating. Didn't realize how much this would mess up my hypo levels. Having more evaporation and got up to 1.010. Now checking every hr. I'm assuming do to all the stiring the tank with a gallon jug. Ugh.

Do you by chance know how this differs from the IceCap Battery back up in terms of back up power?

Sorry I don't other than Icecap looks like it is may be made for specific type of powerheads, as I don't see regular plug ins on it. The one I have has 5 or 6 plug ins and a couple USB slots so it could be used for more than just fish tank related stuff- like keeping a phone charged. The UPS I got is big and heavy, but I keep it behind a chair near my tank to hide it as it does not like humidity, it is possible the Ice Cap can live under a tank near a sump.
