Is there any vendors who do full quarantines on their fish? My qt hasn't finished cycling and I wanted to get some fish in before a gathering on the 27th so my only hope is someone who sells fish that have gone through a full quarantine. Last I heard was humblefish himself was working on selling stuff through his website but that's still not online, any updates on that? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Send HF a pm. I’ve seen a few vendors who claim to quarantine but after reading their QT protocols I’m not convinced...

+1, humble is offering pre-qt’d fish now. Prices are going to be a bit higher, but he literally pours sweat and tears into his fish and won’t let them out the door until they are 100% healthy...

Thoughts on marinecollectors and TSM’s process?

Im still QTing myself because the fish I buy are too cheap [emoji29]

Marine collectors looks like they take a little “extra care”, based on symptoms only- not all treatments are done prophylactically. Better than most. But, I would want to know more about the level of copper and formalin maintained in the IQS.

I can’t find TSM’s process, maybe you can post a link.

I still think I would, at the very least, run an observational QT... to be safe. Remember, sub-therapeutic levels can be dangerous as well, as they can suppress parasites rather than actually kill them.

Since formalin is best used in a series of concentrated dips or when followed-up with metroplex, I can’t imagine the level used for 14 days straight in a mass QT would actually eliminate brook/uronema without harming the fish or possibly shortening the lifespan....

I’m personally not a huge fan of formalin due the harshness and the fact that it is a carcinogen. Sometimes it is necessary, but personally, I try to avoid it.

TSM doesn’t post their process. You have to call them. They say they prefer to explain on the phone vs posting on the site [emoji848]

Well that says something right there, to me... there’s another thread running right now with a similar question:

Thinking of buying a prequarentined Fish

I trust humblefish, because he pretty much helped me to learn most of what I know lol. And he’s helped hundreds of fish out of the kindness of his heart and just for wanting to see less fish die at the hands of unknowing hobbyists.

Anyone else; unless I’ve been at the facility and seen first-hand how everything is handled... would make me very nervous without doing some level or QT.

TSM is local to me here in philly and they bring in and QT all the fish for the local public aquarium too so I can’t imagine their practices are bad in any way....

I would check with LFS in your area - firstly - there are stores that do QT (they do at my LFS).

I’m not far from Philly, get out that way occasionally to visit the hubby’s family. I feel like he might have stopped in there at one point, I’ll have to ask him. I might have to pay them a visit and check it out in person!

Humblefish for sure if he is..

BRS latest fish video talks about Marinecollectors.
I guess you order a fish and they actually go get it right from the importers.
Sounds like they can cherry pick and get the fish before they are grouped together at wholesalers.

Ya I know about the BRS video --- I'm glad they finally come around to QT'ing because they were so afraid to address in the past (which I get because of legal liability). The fact that they pop and dropped fish from Empire on their 160 was pretty cringe back in the day.

MC apparently only QTs for 14 days -- that' similar to Divers Den. DD will do cheap fish every now and then (under $40 fish) TSM claims a 30 day QT process . I did have a call with TSM a while back and straight up asked if I could just drop the fish directly into the display after it went through their treatment program and they said many of their clients do just that. TSM favors Acraflavin and CP or Copper depending on the species. I didn't ask them about flukes and internal parasites though.

I know I wouldn't say something like that -- but they said it anyway o_O

he literally pours sweat and tears into his fish
Wouldn't food and medicine be more effective?
