Price increase on Ecotech and Aqua Iluminations....

I had a conversation with a sales rep for one of the well known aquarium companies we deal with and he was telling me how difficult it was to just get the product in. Nevermind the cost. I'll keep it really simple, I just built a wooden stand. I needed 2X4's. Last I did this they were $1.97 per 8 foot length. Now $8.47 for the same. As much as I hate to admit it, the increase is not that much but in the same sentence I will say that the cost of lights and some other items even prior to all this is just crazy. Supply and demand?
That’s a huge increase in lumber 300%?

Hmm lets see if what everyone in this thread says is true then why did the Philips Coral care just drop in price?
Now lets see We have a new Neptune light coming out which is more competition which should should have pushed the price down but it didn't.

Lets think about this for a minute and why they raised the price when a new product hits the market.

I will venture a guess on the first question. The Coral Care isn't selling. At all. Even on sale they aren't moving. Then buy two and get the controller for free was added. Still, no movement. They are not a great seller even if they are a great light. One sat in the Open Box section of BRS for months. It might still be there even.

As for price increases, this decision was made months and months ago. I think I heard about them in March, maybe April. This wasn't an overnight decision.

Most people don't know the behind the scenes things going on. For example, 6-8 months ago UPS increased residential shipping 100% across the board. Didn't matter who you were or your contract. The new price was double. How long do people think businesses can really eat that difference? Now shipping containers are going for $17-23k each! They were $1500 prior to Covid and about $3600 just a few months ago.

Let’s not even get started about the price of chicken wings! And when I got home from the Sonny’s BBQ drive thru, two of my six wings were these micro-wings plucked off a newborn baby chick! :(

The problem is as soon as the price goes up they are there to stay. So as soon as all the supply chains get back to normal and their prices drop do you think as the consumer we’re gonna see the price drop? Absolutely not why would the companies forfeit more profit for them.

Well so far T5 bulbs have not increased in price and got a bunch cheap with MD liquidation sale. Everything is fixable on an ATI (not that it ever breaks) and it can grow anything so I will just continue with the T5 life.

Just finding chicken wings in the grocery is difficult. Chickens still have wings don’t they?!

No surprise they have been warning us for months this is coming. It's still a demand and supply market though and nobody is making us purchase their products. If enough people are unhappy and start purchasing other companies products the price will come back down. Of course the trade off of that is they may start using inferior components to meet costs. It is what it is. I need electricity, food, and water. I don't need Ecotech.

I been taking advantage of the 40% of at MD. SO far just got 3 boxes...Have 2 more coming . Got a lot of Brightwell stuff so I am stocked up, just gonna see what happens to prices as they get closer to final days, then may jump on more stuff I need
Same. They had some screaming deals on marco rock and RO filters.

yeah saving money is key.....I dont need any rock since I am moving what I have from the 140 to the 300 and I got dry rock in a 50 gallon bucked w Microbater7. Less chance of getting critters ....
