I think a lot of people actually don't know what the TOS are. Here is the link to help alleviate confusion. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I feel honest debate from both viewpoints is very important, sometimes people get very passionate and in a text form may seem rude or disrespectful but in reality they are just being passionate about there view . I for one am glad bean animal has a different view because that helps me kinda see the other side of the debate. As for the prices going up I understand everything is going up look at vehicle prices for instance, but if you are going to have a 1000.00 light build that 1000.00 light with the same or even better quality of the previous flagship light you sold in 2019 for 679.00 . I would even be willing to pay like a care plan to guarantee support for the light after the one year . I mean you can buy a vectra and I have had three they have a 1 year warranty around 18 months you get a thermal transistor error the pump is basically a brick , yet sicce is a little bit cheaper offers a 5 year warranty and is made in Italy vs China . So for me it boils down to greed from Ecotech from the point of your paying more money for subpar products that they used to make because they are trying to squeeze every penny out of that one product and cut corners as much as they can to drive profits. Open there old mps and compare them to new ones right down to the winding of the motors . The point is you want top dollar for your product then offer a top of the line product don’t raise the price just because you can to squeeze even more money from the loyal customers who have supported your brand since the beginning.

You got that right !

we as hobbyists need to vote with our money- you stop buying, prices will come down. Sure the price hike has to do with inflation but I can’t ignore that it also likely has something to do with these companies joining a conglomerate and, as they absorb our choices- they will only get more confident, arrogant and expensive. They control the price expectation- time for us to. AB+, a fancy magnet powerhead and orange boxes aren’t needed for success- there are options- vote with them.

I tend to agree that a percentage of the price is based on what people are willing to spend. To my previous point, we as consumers are never going to group together to form a pseudo boycott and force a company to lower prices. There are plenty of consumers that still feel that the prices are fair based on their value.

I've never been in the position to have the need to understand everything that goes into what dictates prices, I'm grateful for people like @BeanAnimal that offer insight and give a better understanding of the bigger picture.

I get why people dissect the delivery of the massage vs the message itself. But there are some great points that shouldn't be overlooked just because the way it was delivered.

When I think of higher prices, I'm left wondering how much of it is based on balancing price with logistical availability of raw materials and how fast you can manufacture product. I'm not talking about value based on effort that went into bringing it to market. I'm saying, if you price too low that you can't keep up with demand. Is it better to have a shortage of products because people are buying them quicker than they can be made? Or do you price accordingly so that consumers are purchasing in line with manufacturing?

On one hand people are angry that they can't get a product, then on the other people are angry that the cost is too high.

How much of that goes into setting price if at all?

$1100 for a light that will grow corals just as good as a $500 light. End of story. Stop trying to justify cost whatever.

Classic supply vs. demand. Agree100%. As long as a group is willing to pay for it at that price, it’s not gonna lower- but we’re close to that threshold… how many sales have been extended lately? Do you really think they do that because they want to help the consumer? It is disappointing that the cheaper alternatives don’t get the press that the conglomerate controlled outlets push under the guise of helpful advice.

This is my point. One large entity buys up the top selling and most popular brands then raise their prices solely because they can!

IMO the industry is well represented, and hobbyists are not. There is no central group looking out for the best interest of Reefers in general. But with that, reefing is a very, very, small niche of the pet industry. Companies and retailers are not (mostly) raking in millions in profits each year. But the promotion of lower priced goods and options should be presented more, so Reefers are aware of that choice. For example, when is the last time you saw Jebao promoted on YouTube, Instagram, or any other social media?

I'm in the body shop at a local dealership here in western Washington. Replacement parts are going through the roof in prices and parts availability are hit or miss. On New vehicle's it's the worse. I just finished a 30000.00 yes 30k repair on a 23 Corvette. The mirror covers were carbon fiber and gm doesn't even have anyone making them. We had to switch both mirrors to painted. Oh ya, the price just for a mirror cap was over 600.00. you know, the cap on top of your mirror.

I had to do a search for threads on reef central.

10 years ago radions were $550, which means in 10 years from now your post would read,

$2300 for a light that will grow corals just as good as a $1100 light. End of story. Stop trying to justify cost whatever.
Haha

A few t5s in shop lights will grow coral too.. so why even spend $500?

Don’t confuse your perceived or assigned value with profit margin, honesty or integrity of the manufacturer.

Amazon black boxes grow coral. 4K halides from Home Depot grow coral. It's truly where people put (vote with) their dollars and what the market will bear, blah blah.
