Yes. On September 8th, AI, Ecotech, and Neptune products will all increase in price due to inflation and other factors. This was communicated to retailers who sell those products.

Like rising interest rates. Companies use credit as well. I'm not defending them, just offering their explanation.

I believe this trend will be continuous and questions at what point do we " Have enough" and seek other products or hobbies.
As many have always expressed, we keep paying and they will keep increasing these numbers. Then to make matters worse- They placed Nothing on sale for the Labor Day weekend. Glad I run Ecotech nothing for equipment.

I'm not saying I like the increase , but one thing Ecotech does right, in my opinion, is that you get their products (I only use their MP40s) for the same price no matter where you buy them which actually helps the small LFS from being killed by online retailers with smaller overhead.

Unfortunately I’ve lost enough money in fish in the last 2 years that I am biting the bullet and getting vortechs so there are no cords in my tank and my jump guard will sit flat to the top of the tank. Had a custom acrylic lid but fish still always managed to find a way to the floor. I despise mobius soo much that if another company had a similar wave maker with no cords in the tank I would pay more for their product, but alas no such company exists!

I was thinking about adding another Nero (been looking at the Nero 5 and 7) to my tank. If the prices are going up again, maybe it’s time to consider trying one of those Jebao wavemakers.

The price is the same because they leave so little room for profit when they are sold on wholesale that you couldn’t charge more than msrp when the company that makes them also sells them to the public.

Have manages retail stores I can tell you that vendors place price restrictions on their products for the reason mentioned above. If the LFS (most of which are not highly profitable, thus why there are so many less than 20 years ago) had to compete with BRS or other online retailers that could rotate from one vendor to another for sales as loss leaders or even at 50% of the profit, then the LFS who can maybe only carry one brand can’t sell anything because customers would wait for the online to run their sales. Also other factors which have been brought up higher shipping costs, less availability if components, and probably lower sales due to poor economy. I can’t speak to echo tech products as I don’t own any, but they seem to have a solid name in the industry. If they are bringing newer improved products?? Then those advances cost money in R&D as well.

There is the adage that you get what you pay for. I can definitely say that my neotune and AI products are far superior to the products that I used when I started in the 80’s.

As a fellow reefer who has just launched a Pod and Phyto business right here on R2R, I can tell you that what I have invested in my venture is far more than what I imagined when I started. I’m taking the same approach that I used when I managed a multimillion dollar furniture store, lower prices to generate higher volume. Seeing how most “American” companies are very similarly priced and the less expensive is what everybody refers to as China Lights etc. I have to think that one of the vendors would reduce their prices to own the market if it were possible. Plus the “China Lights” I bought for my Frag system are good to great lights but much harder to program than my AI’s I run on my DT’s.

Percentage wise, there is a great margin on Ecotech products actually. Almost every MAP item has good margins come to think of it.

A LFS will never stay in business selling hard goods. If that is their plan, better close the doors now.

People hate it when I post this, but everybody who has ever bought a Chinese knockoff product has contributed to this price hike in some way. EcoTech and the legit companies still have to do all of the R&D but with more business going to patent stealers and stuff, there is less product sales to spread out the cost.

The only good value for Ecotech equipment is buying used.

So true. I love paying more and more for all of the things out there because that’s how I get to feel rich and happy and successful. The printing of money and unending creation of wealth prevents prices from going up, but many economists argue that it’s necessary to prevent a stagnant supply of empty shelves and unemployment. We all have to do our part to ensure that it never happens again.
