I wonder is one can hook the PM to a WMX and that would solve the issue with the wire from room to room

Almost forgot I have a third one going on my current build:D

Thanks Crabs. I have an APEX on my DT. It's really a pretty sophisticated set up but it's too far away from my QT to use it. So yes, I was depending on the internal sensor on the heater.

I will continue to QT new arrivals because I know the benefits outweigh the risks, but dang it sucks to lose corals like that.
So sorry the same happened to me. I have a full Apex on my DT but not on QT and my heater failed. I now have a separate controller on the heater on the QT tank

If you don't mind me asking, what did you loose??? Coral wise?

Sometimes coral that appears gone can "come back." In my experience, two different "rocks" (which I bleached, because they were from questionable sources) regrew into decent corals, in a few weeks' time! So, please don't pitch your corals yet. Never know what may recover! Good luck.

I've read and learned a huge amount on R2R and have implemented many "best practices" into my system and maintanence regimes. One that was very challenging for me was to QT all my new purchases (I have limited space for a QT).

Nevertheless, I made it happen.

I made my annual trek to Reef-a-Palooza and picked up some nice corals and rock flower anemones, brought them home and into the QT they went.

1 day later almost everything was dead. My heater failed and basically cooked everything. I feel ill.:(:eek:;Blackeye;Drowning;Inpain;Oldman;Sour;Vomit

I don't know how your QT is set up, but I only use a QT when I need it. I don't leave it running all the time and use a small Evo 13.5 gallon tank.

If you use a small tank temporarily, they easily fit on those wheeled utility carts with 2 shelves (if you need 2 QT tanks) and hold up to 300 pounds. So you can keep a temporary QT setup near your apex and roll it away when you don't need it anymore. It also has sides for the shelves to keep in water spills and to put supplies on. Just an option I use for keeping my temporary QT near my display when I need it.

dang man.. id be super sad. Not gonna lie this forum convinced me to buy a Inkbird and it has relieved lots of stress.

Ugh that really stinks, have you thought about having a long aquabus cable run from your dt to your qt? It's pretty easy and somewhat cheap.

So sorry for your loss. I put a ReefKeeperLite on my QT for just that reason. It isn’t too expensive and has a temp probe so it will shut down the heater before it can get too hot and also has a audible alarm.

So I actually got a little bit lucky because I moved my rock flower anemones to my DT hours before the disaster. They are doing well. The corals that I *think* are dead are (from left to right and top to bottom):
Favia
Purple stylophora
Green stylophora
Dendro
Riccordia (I think this guy actually survived!)
"Jason Fox", exact type unknown
Acan lord

I moved everything to my DT in order to give them the best chance of bouncing back. I figured that, after dipping with Bayer, CoralRX and heating them up to 95 degrees, the likelihood of anything bad surviving is low.

I'm rethinking all my options. Setting the QT up next to the tank is possible...

We've all been there. Keep your head up!

Tell me about it. I have had tank crashes in the past and lost everything in it. All you can do is chalk it up to experience and keep on moving. The best business people aren't successful because they always have success. The best business people are successful because of the experience they learn from their failures. Same goes with this hobby. If/when you can recover from the crash, it will make you better for the future.

This is a possibility. I only have QT set up infrequently.

They are hugely popular in the hobby and Ive not read of one failing. I research everything in the hobby before buying anything. This one was a no brainier for me.

Just a heads up, mine got rust/corrosion stains on the sensor right where the wire goes in.
I had high copper and zinc in my tank on my ICP test so I cut off the sensor and replaced it with a fully sealed silicone one. I also replaced all powerheads and pumps at the same time as a precaution so I don't know for sure if it was the cause. But just something to keep an eye on. :)

Was aware that some probes had rust issues and others didn't. The manufacturer states that it's made of stainless steel. As a precaution I shrink wrapped mine back when I got it.

This thread was an interesting experience for me. I posted because, well, I just needed to vent. In addition to (much appreciated) sympathy, there were numerous constructive suggestions to prevent future disasters of the same kind, which I did not expect. This is why I love R2R. Thanks all.

PM me, I'll send you a few frags I have....
