Pictures by minirex4777 - Photobucket here is a link to my photobucket album which has a lot of pics of the hornets morphing .these are all pre contest shots i believe but they are a start and tomorrrow ill upload current photos and give a link for those.I no longer have any desire to sell coral so this isnt about me.This is for those of you left wondering what you have in your tank in hopes that it will give you the spark you need to color your frags. For those of you who know me on a personal level you know id rather trade than sell anyday of the week and twice on sunday.I no longer have any intrest in doing anything but collecting and enjoying the hobby and trading with friends. It sucks to do all this work and get shut out but sooner or later someone will come on with some pics of their purple hornets from me and youll all say remember that crazy guy who checked himself into the looney bin,he wasnt that crazy after all.But by then it will be too late and ill be eating pudding for breakfast lunch and dinner. If nothing else maybe i can learn not to take this hobby so seriously and myself for that matter.Ron R

I agree that any coral can lose color from being closed up. But, thats not the case on these. I hade them for months and they were never closed up. They never had the color of a puple hornet and they never gained the color of a purple hornet. They arrived the color that you see in the photo and they remained that color.

Oh well, just thought I would share my store with it and show a photo to back it up.

gar look at the baby polyp in your pic.the one thats all blue in the bunch of colored hornets you have which are glowing blue.its killing me i cant post my pics because i can match that pic from my polyps.Oh what the heck ill photobucket tonight this is just to tough to walk away from.give me a few and ill get the pics up.

I may be wrong but the photos reefpets just posted I looked closely and the faded ones do look like they have a distinct spot for a ring theres just not one there. Also on the left frag on some of the skirts thats normally yellow then purple you can kinda see where everyother one kinda has a rust color I guess it could be extremely faded I dunno

Come on Ron... I heard that stuff for about 6 weeks! They grew SEVERAL new polyps and everyone of them look the same as in the photo. As you can see, I dont have any problem coloring up purple hornets. I am not the only person that is arguing this, not one person on this thread said that they received a purple hornet, not anyone so far.

I think I may even still have a frag of these. They are not faded, they are not coloring up and they are not purple hornets, not the ones that I received. Even one of ou phone conversations you stated that you thought some of the colonies you got were purple hornets and they turned out not to be purple hornets.

All zoas, maybe not all but MANY have that ring around there mouth where the lines do not extend from the skirt to the mouth. You can see, the frag of the true purple hornets have the yellow ring in the lines of the polyps, the lines go through the rings.

Maybe you did have some that colored up and or morphed?? All I can say is that I did not receive those. I must have received the ones that you thought were purple hornets but turned out not to be.

I was done with this looooong ago. I know what I got and what I was told, I just took the time to read through the emails. The photo shows what I got and they had many months to "color up" and never did.

oh no dont get me wrong...i am just saying that from the op's pics of the faded hornet it doesnt even look like a faded purple hornet...:)

those are "hurple pornets" and no I am not dyslexic those are not purple hornets I have a single polyp that was fragged from Lussie25 and never came browned out like that for something to turn that color it must of been placed in a sewage tank

here is a picture taken 4/14/10

now remember we were supposed to start shipping on april 1st.I took these pics on the 14th in case i had to prove i launched this contest with colored polyps.I could not control what was happening.i wish i had a pox remedy but aside from putting the polyps in a new system i did the best i could to revive them and see they got to people healthy. Picture1127.jpg picture by minirex4777 - Photobucket ill put up more pics tomorrow.its 420 am so im calling it a night. also theses polyps had lost alot of color by this point due to what was happening in my system.A nitrate spike led to over 100ppm nitrates which i believe brought on the pox or i should say weakened the polyps and let the everpresent pox take hold.like ich i now believe pox is always around its just by weaking a polyp that it rears it ugly head.i have a few more colony pics ill post tomorrow. At this point i had no way too know how bad the colors would fade and i had alot of very angry people emailing me so like i said knowing the polyps where real and looking at the color you see in these pics i made them the only offer i could and stood by it come h ll or high water.Others might have folded and told everyone to pound sand but i did my best to fulfill my promise.not for foot traffic or a quick profit but because it meant something to me to live up to what i promised everyone.sometimes its better to call it then finish the game but im not a quitter never have been so i did what i know how to do and i worked like a mad man day and night and got everyone who wanted some shipped out.It would have been nice if the polyps cooperated a little but im proud of the fact that i didnt quit and for almost everyone who got shipped their is a healthy frag in their tank.Color will come but a dead frag has no chance of coloring and how i managed so many healthy frags with what was happening i still dont know but im thankful all that hard work didnt go down the drain.I think this will be one of those deals where a select few will forever know the truth and most will take it for granted that if gary says they are not real they are not.And thats ok.Thats the coral biz .
So i quess in the end we will all have exactly what we want out of theses polyps. For those who want hornets just wait and youll have hornets for those who dont get rid of your frags and you can say they werent real and for those who want a refund show me a colored up polyp that is not a purple hornet and youve got your refund.Nothing can give me back those months of worry and work not even getting my name dragged through the mud but i dont care.I know my heart was in the right place and im fine with it and thats all that matters. If you think in the end i believed i get anything but grief for it your even crazier than i am.lol but please show some of your pics the good the bad and the ugly and ill do the same.Who knows maybe in a few months from now ill look like the sainest person here and maybe well all have a differnt view of what an expert is.Is it the guy who gets something all colored up or the one who watches it go through all its paces .The more experts that sound off the more im certain there are no experts around to talk too.the people who got these frags will have all they need to solve this for themselves and some will and thats good enough for me.

hurple pornets with genious like that its no wonder im having so much trouble getting the point across. wow you switched the h and the p how did you ever think of that? i best not word play with you.

I just can not believe for the life of me that someone would try to pass these bad Tubb Blues off as Purple Hornets. Clearly they have no idea what a Purple Hornet is. All this "my system was messed up" or "they need to color back up" is what it is...a bunch of BS... straight up BS. Anyone who would try to pass them off as such must either be a fool or think the people these polyps were sent to are fools. Sad...really sad...gives a bad name to the hobby and online vendors in general.

minirex - I would take a pic of mine but there's no use. Mine look EXACTLY like Gary's. I have had them for darn near 6 months. During this same time I have taken some pretty neglected looking corals and made them into stunners. I hate to keep beating a dead horse here but they just aren't purple hornets. I'm over the few $ that I lost, it's not a big deal. Thanks for coming over to try and explain your side. I understand that you worked very hard and sending out hundreds of polyps to people all over the country can be a daunting challenge. If you hadn't said you were sending purple hornets then I wouldn't have a thing to say about it. As another poster said, this was just an epic fail. That's about all I need to say on the subject. You and I (and probably everyone else) will just have to agree to disagree. There are no colored up polyps and there never will be.

Rev - I want to say thank you for allowing this to be discussed openly. You run a tight ship on here and there are a lot of forums where this type of thread would have been deleted instead of moderated. I appreciate your efforts. This was a discussion that I have felt for a long time that needed to happen.

Yeah thanks Rev for allowing this to go on. Hopefully this thread stays in line so far most of the people who have posted in here have been in line with topic. Theres been no arguing and everyone has acted like adults on this situation so far which is something I love about this site!!! Here we can actually discuss stuff like adults and not turn this into a circus like some other forums

??

The part I don't understand is where people are saying they grew new polyps and they are not hornets. They are clearly Tubbs blues or something along those lines. I have had Hornets shipped second day and never had a problem with colors. 6 months is more than long enough to color back up. There also is a treatments for zoa pox. In the future if giveways/contests are run it would be advisable to quarantine and make certain what you have is real and healthy before you make statements that you cant follow through with. Most people that paid ($30-$40) for shipping.. let it go. This is an expensive hobby and things quite often are not what they seem. No point in trashing people this badly over something that clearly IMO wasn't going to happen from the beginning.

I don't care what you call them they are not what people thought they were getting at all. Everyone one was taken for a ride period. Anybody w/ half a noodle knows what a Purple Hornet looks like. I feel sorry for the mislead people. With no refunds I consider it just a scam and I would never deal those kind again. Goes with the saying if something looks to good to be true is probably isn't. As for that color up thing . Thats just a joke . One look at Garys pictures tells it all. I don't know anyone that could be happy w/ that deal. The People have spoken they are not happy!!!!

Well I still have my polyps that was sent to me and havent moved them although the skirts are starting to color up some theres no ring yet. But I will keep mine right where they are and give it more time and hopefully something good will come out of this who knows right? Although i dont expect it it doesnt bother me to keep them in the tank lol

I saw those fake purple hornets at Gary's shop and they were ugly blue from the day he got them in until the last time I saw them.

If they are purple hornets... what did you do to make them so ugly, and why would you sell browned purple hornets?

I'll try and get some from my cell phone. They haven't even sprouted new polyps. I want them to color up, and they will be in my tank until I run out of room (probably not in the foreseeable future).
