Question for you clown experts

This is my female Picasso when they were putting down huge clutches. If I remember correctly this was the day before she laid. They laid every 8 days like clock work. They do get swollen bellies and I see it in some of my other clowns when they are holding and lay just fine. However I've never seen a female with a belly that large when they first start laying, doesn't mean it's impossible just not in my expierence. You would have seen them cleaning the same spot pretty much constantly and also you would see them taking practice runs over that area, as if they were laying. I've seen this in another thread and it turned out to be an intestinal issue. I don't remember the out come. I've also seen this with younger clowns when they eat floating foods and ingest air. They will usually expel the air in a few hours.
Would they clean something that is already immaculate? I just put the tile in so its clean as can be.

Also what would be a good treatment for intestinal issues? @melypr1985,@Humblefish

Im trying to find my routes to go so tomorrow when i do the pea and epsom salt thing if the next day or two doesnt help, then what would be a good step to take.

Well, normally I would say general cure or metroplex. But if she's about to lay eggs that might not be the best course of action. I've never administered meds to a "pregnant" fish before. I would hope the only bad thing would be that the eggs she may be carrying would just be layed and not hatch. Not the worst case scenario.

I would wait a little longer than that and see if she lays eggs. After a week, I'd probably start looking into the metro or GC thing.

Also, what kind of epsom salt

The pure kind you find at the pharmacy.

Just plain unscented Epsom salt from the pharmacy / grocery.

I wouldn't panic yet. My clown looks like that right now, I expect her to lay tonight or tomorrow. They lay eggs regularly and she usually gets broad between, and just behind, the pectoral fins.
Is it possible they have laid eggs already previously where you couldn't see? Has the male been keeping close to a certain area off and on recently?

Only thing is, ive dosed my tank with metronidazole for 6+consecutive days. Which is metroplex. And only a few days ago did i stop....and shes been this fat while dosing. Wouldnt that say that intestinal is kind of on the low side of possibilities?

In that light, then yeah... pretty darn low. Let's just see if she lays eggs. It sounds like my clown wasn't the norm with her not getting that round before laying. One step at a time. She will probably end up laying tonight or tomorrow and you'll be thinking "whew!"

Now I'm afraid lol i moght have to do the egg thing. That being said ill try the peas tomorrow. Epsom salt ill have to go get, but if metro was being dosed i highly doubt that its intestinal

Yeah i hope! I haven't seen any cleansing the tile, but im not around the tank very long. Few hours a day or few days. And the tile is brand spanking new so maybe it's clean as can be.

And they may not chose the tile if it's new, they may have another flat surface picked out already....

Also, how big is the female? Would it be safe to say maybe size comparison plays a role? The bigger the fish the more room for eggs hence less round?

Mine lay in a half dollar area of rock that is not perfectly flat and faces the front of the tank. Theres plenty of spots, IMO.
But I am no expert, all I know is from watching my pair lay over the last year or two.

I believe you are correct. You have to culture food for the rotifers as well, I believe. A bit late to start th is time If she is about to lay, you'll need to do research more, and have your cultures going, it's a good deal of work but good luck if you decide to try it!

Well id buy rotifers for this hatch if she does lay. But for future. Id be able to raise rotifers and brine shrimp. I might test using spiralina powder as i have that in hand to start them off.
