I try to minimize my input to things that I can control. I can´t control the food but I believe that in my fish food - many of the trace elements is present and I will have them incorporated in my chaeto. I hope that this "juice" will content most of the things my filtrating animals need. The amino acids come from bacterial breakdown of proteins - I let my skimmate go back to the DT. Yes - I want steady state and I want to see how close to this target i can come.

@Lasse
If bacteria are food for some coral and bacteria produce amino acids from proteins, would it be a good idea to dose organic carbon. Since I don’t use a skimmer, these bacteria would indeed increase population density of the “microbial loop”. I am beginning to question my wisdom of dosing amino acids to enhance coral feeding response when I would accomplish the same thing in a two step process by increasing organic carbon and increasing feed to fish. I am thinking that fish food and vodka are cheaper than amino acid.
