Randy's Repurpose Build

Thanks Tyler. It has really been a fun project so far. Hopefully reusing all of my junk will give somebody an idea on some junk they can reuse.

Time for the weekend updates.

Took an rubber workout mat and made a top for the tank to sit on.

Started to make an inventory of what I had and what I could use in terms of bulkheads. I ordered a bulkhead that should be getting here Tuesday.

Here is the overflow box that came with the Wet/Dry filter when I did freshwater. Still new in the plastic. It has never been opened.

When I went to cut the back of the overflow box with a jig saw it didn't work out so well. So learned something that I shouldn't do. I ended up breaking it into 3 pieces. Used some acrylic cement and put it back together. You can see the lines where I broke it but doesn't look too bad.

Here are pictures of the almost finished stand. My black stain dried out so I thought I would try my luck with a propane torch.

I ended putting 3 coats of clear and I like the way it turned out. The white on the inside of the stand is a little too much contrast so going to do something with that.

Took some of the white paint off the inside part of the side. I like the way it looks a lot better now.

Got a little done on it last night. Got the last clear coat on the stand. So that part is over with.

The bulkhead came in yesterday so I drilled for the overflow and return.

Next will be painting the back of the tank and getting the overflow installed. Getting closer to plumbing..... can't wait.

It's looking good. Have you decided what you are doing with the setup?

Honestly not really. I have thought about trying to sale it or using it for a frag tank. Who knows somebody may want it. I bet nobody on R2R has set fire to a tank stand to achieve a look they were after. It may replace black or oak. LOL

Got the back painted last night. Didn't quite pass the light test this morning so will put another coat on this weekend. That should do it.
