Randy's Repurpose Build

What's the lowest drilled hole for? Haven't seen that before.

And you probably won't ever LOL.

The tank use to be a sump for a 180G. That hole was for the external return pump when it was a sump. The right side was a refugium, left side was for the skimmer and both sides overflowed to the center section and the return pump was connected to the hole. I have a build thread in the Huntsville forum if you want to take a closer look.

What I am going to do is connect a 1 inch bushing to the 1.5 inch bulkhead that just came in and have a 1 inch line come directly under the stand and connect that to a gate valve. Then I will put a 90 degree elbow at the end. It can then be used for water changes or filling frag bags. At first I thought about just capping the hole and not use it for anything, but I wasn't able to find a bulkhead that didn't have a hole in it.

I guess I could have gotten a threaded bulkhead and cap, that would have worked.

Thanks for asking
Randy

Just to give a couple more updates.

I went ahead and cut new baffles out of the old baffles to make the sump. Maybe the difference is that my baffles are 3/8 and the ones on y0utube were 1/4, but these things were tricky and not that easy to snap. They made it look so easy on the internet

I made several changes on the SWC 180 skimmer. It came with a Sicce 2500 pump and I made it use the updated 1000 pump. It fought kicking and screaming, but finally was able to make it work.

The plumbing is almost complete. The pictures were blurry (even more than usual) so I wont post them.

Should be able to test for leaks soon.

Thanks
Randy

Just to give an update. I had to redo the overflow and lower it by a half inch. Plumbing and leak tests are complete.

Next step is to figure what to do about lighting. Most likely will build a canopy

Pleased with the way the build turned out. First time I ever took a propane torch to wood to get a particular finish.

Also, now that its done, not really sure what to do with it.

I think I am going to try to sell it for $500

65G (48 x 18 x 17) tank with 1.5 inch external durso overflow. 1 inch return line and 1 inch drain line
30 gallon sump with 3 sections
2 lumen max 250w hqi reflectors
2 250 w Phoenix 14k bulbs. Used 4 months
Dual electronic ballast
Mag 12 return pump with new propeller
New filter sock
Swc 180 skimmer with sicce 1000 skimmer pump. Pump used 1 month before I got the big skimmer
Plumbing has unions and can be removed

If nobody wants to buy it I will most likely make a frag tank out of it. Think I'm going to make a lid for the canopy. I think it would make the top look better and won't be that hard to make either

Finished the top and put the first coat of clear on. Will take another pic after the second coat of clear
