Red Sea Reefer Tank Seal Failure

Im so sorry for you, absolutely my worst nightmare...
As far as people stating that RS sells more, therefore more tanks fail is BS. RS should take this very seriously. ONE tank failure is too many. These are very expensive and should absolutely be over-engineered so this never happens. Hope the updated models are built with that mindset.

Tired of hearing so many people with same tank, same problem. Best thing for these tanks is buy new, set up where you want it, and try to never relocate. It’s the rimless, no brace and thin black adhesive ( not silicone) look that sells these tanks, they look nice. The bigger the tank, the greater the pressure, leading to failure.

It's a known problem for original owners as well. The BRS giveaway tank last year (I think it was last year) busted for the winner of it. Problem with red sea accepting responsibility for it is the lawsuits for other damages that will have to be paid...same goes to tropic Marin. They will replace it if the warranty is followed...but there's not a real admittance of "YEAH... we fd up". I agree there's no telling on a tank that's moved...but it's the same failure every time regardless...front seam.

What if it happened to you in your house, with a brand new tank that’s never been moved as some people have stated?

Unless there is a strange phenomenon where RS tanks are more likely to be relocated than any other brand, it's hard to blame the failures on that. RS may have more seam failures than all other brands combined at this point.

Didn't come initially from the manufacturer, public found it out, manufacturer admitted only much later

Other rimless tank manufacturers like IM and WB do not seem to have the same frequency of seam failures as RS. If there are way more RS tanks in circulation compared to IM/WB it could make sense mathematically, but I'm not sure if that's the case.

Ok I have to chime in. While I agree overall that one tank failure is one too many, saying that RS uses a thin black silicone is massively misleading. I personally have never seen another brand use such a thick amount of adhesive/silicone. This is what they call their armored seams. Ya I still wake up scared every day thinking I might find water on the ground but I would never say RS reefers have a thin adhesive. Just plainly wrong.

I have a suspicion that almost everyone on this thread flexing has never owned a RS tank.. As a business owner customers do all kinds of things that are blatantly obvious and then blame the manufacturer. I'm not saying this is the case here but it happens alot. Nobody is twisting your arm to buy one so move on. I never knew reef2reef had so many Karen's.

I agree..but just like anything, it could be a bad run of silicone. Hence, something that may take time to notice a problem. They know there is a problem now..but instead of just saying "hey we will replace all of those models of tanks"..it takes a failure or someone noticing one about to fail in order to make something happen.

Yea Waterbox has never had an issue right? I've seen better cabinets come out of a high school shop class. As soon as I saw them with my own eyes and their own "diamond dealer" trash them for never being able to stock parts told me all I needed to know. I just didn't buy one and moved on. I bought my 625xxl after all these issues were addressed. You wanna see what owners can do to tanks? Go on marketplace and see for yourself. Don't think for a second that every reefer takes care of their stuff the same.

Mike that's a fair perspective. It's the volume of posts from first time buyers too, it's all just too much. Oceanic simply never had this issue, the standard is available if a company wants to seize it.

Not True Oceanic had similar issues in fact all tank manufactures will at some point, distribution , install issues and a myriad of other things including manufacturing can lead to tank failures , given the volume of Red Sea tanks sold they may actually have a lower failure than others, we just hear about more of them. Spouting frustration because the original manufacturer won't warranty a second hand tank is just plain silly.

I absolutely agree with you. Let's take those out of the narrative and focus on the original owner...on level surface..on the original stand. Why does it happen at that point? I think they have great tanks as an overall..but these...nah
